It's three players for Cutler...cost too high Ultimately, Cutler is going to be traded for 3 players, whether that be three picks or a combination of picks and upper level players. In my view, that is way too high of a price to pay for a QB like Cutler. For the Jets to get him it is going to be something like Revis, a first and a conditional pick probably as high as a second or first next year. On the upside Cutler is a true franchise QB. Even so, you have now crippled your secondary. Without a first this year and maybe next it is extremely hard to replace him and the rest of our secondary is now suspect. We also lose two other possibilities of upgrading our defense or offense or depth. So now, with one trade we have moved the team completely away from what the head coach wants. We will have a very good QB surrounded by mediocre talent, and a defense that cannot be aggressive because of what will be an AWFUL secondary. With limited picks it will take maybe 3 years to get the defense where it needs to be. The opportunity cost of getting Cutler is just too high. Even if he is a solid pro-bowler it weakens our ability to field a solid team top to bottom. And remember this is a guy with some serious health issues that may not stay under control, and there is a real chance of a Ryan Leaf like meltdown under the pressure of the NY market. In that scenario, if Cutler is not the franchise QB you think he is, we could easily be looking at 5 years of mediocrity. The cost is simply too high and it is too risky. Now if we do not do the trade, we can continue to mold our team in the Baltimore mold. We can keep a top 3 corner in the NFL, and build the defense into an elite unit with 2 additional high picks the next couple years. We can start either Ratliff or Clemens in an environment perfect for success: solid o-line, solid to excellent defense. And that is also the team Ryan wants. In the end the opportunity is too high, and getting Cutler clearly moves your team in a direction away from where the head coach wants to go. Yes, Tanny makes the personnel decisions, but he has to build the right team for the coach he has, and this is not the right move for that. Hopefully Tanny's ego will not get in the way of the right decision and pass.
I"ll be honest, I don't think Ryan wants to deal any of his defense if he doens't have to. Give the draft for the guy and that should be plenty. No way should it cost 2 #1s and a player. Denver has NO advantage in this situation, their QB doesn't want to play for them and the HAVE to get rid of him some how. I don't see anyone paying them a King's ransom. In the next few days, the value will slowly start to lower and he could go for just a 1st rounder and a conditional next year.
The Broncos are not gonna want to deal with the 35 million in guaranteed money that comes with the 1st overall pick.
I think he is worth 2 1st round picks. I mean, with our last 2 1st round picks we got Vernon Gholston and Dustin Keller. I would definitely rather have Cutler than those two. And for those who say this is not a fair scenario because Gholston is a bust, well how do we know we won't be getting a bust with our next 1st rounder? All I know is that we would be trading 2 unknown players for a young, proven pro-bowl QB. I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Nice!! Im in agreement. Health, attitude, cost, not worth the risk. Especially when we have 2 young guys that should be able to do what Rex wants done on offense. If we gave up a first this year and a cond. pick next year, I might go along with grabbing him. But there is no way Denver lets him walk for that. That Drama Queen stuff will create a media circus here. Let the Giants keep the headlines in the Big Apple with all that after hours crap!
What two 1st rounders? This is important. I highly doubt Denver would want both of Detroit's first round picks. That would give Denver the 1st, 12th, and 20th overall selections. If they didn't then trade any of those picks, they'd be doling out a large amount of money to three unproven players. The 20th pick in the 2009 draft and Detroit's 1st rounder in 2010 is more reasonable.
Are you kidding me the same Broncos who took D-Rob off our hands and the same Broncos who havent had a decent RB in a lifetime.......hmy:
I don't think they will. They are really high on jason smith. If they trade away there first two rounders, and they don't draft a dominant left tackle that can make an impact right away, Cutler won't do much with that offensive line.
If you REALLY want to sit there and not think Shanahan ran that team 80% of his regime you're delusional. And this guy is now putting Cutler on the block, most of it due to Cutler's attitude...But obviously he's letting McD-XMan run the ship...Whether it's good or bad.
to be honest, getting a true franchise qb outweighs having a "hole" at ilb or safety, the more i think about it i would rather give up k rhodes and plug in elam for the time being. 17 Rhodes and either a 2nd or another lesser player gets it done and we finally have a franchise qb in the ganggreen
what do you want to give up, we cant just give up sweaty jocks and expect the broncos to bite, you have to give value to get value, ill be the first to say that i love harris and rhodes, but Harris is overrated on this site and injury prone, and Kerry Rhodes while good, is not a gamechanger
