You do realize that every player (well except for the Undrafted Rookie Free Agents) was drafted into the league right? INCLUDING the good ones and the Hall Of Famers. The best teams in the league and the best teams in league history, are the ones tha draft well. They draft, groom, and resign their players. Look at NE, Steelers, Indy, Giants etc. To say that the only value a draft pick has is in a trade is just stupid.
You do realize that is my point, don't you? That the draft is a crapshoot. No guarantees on what you are getting. Just look at Gholston for a recent perspective on that. When you use those picks to trade for an established player you know what you are getting, there is history there.
As exciting as it would be to have a good QB, I'm no longer sure I'd want this freakin crybaby on the JETS.
I say we pass on him. I can't see this signing working out in the best interest of the Jets. We already have one of the leaders on the Jets (Rhodes) who has publically stated he doesn't like Cutler & thinks he is an ass. I truly believe that by keeping our picks & continuing to draft smart we will get where we need to be. I can't believe we have people offering up Harris etc. I just heard on ESPN Revis's name mentioned ... are you freaking kidding me?
I don't see Revis being offered up, if Rex has anything to say about it. I think that would be a piss poor idea. We already have a shitty pass D, so opening a gaping hole in an already porous department would really negate anything Cutler could bring to the table. They'd end up having to score like 30 points a game.
you know how rare it is for a 25 year old pro bowl QB to become available?? it's like Halley's Comet......once in a blue moon, guys. I guarantee you Tanny will throw anything he can to acquire this guy....Revis, draft picks, his testicles, his first born. Woody needs to sell PSL's.....nuff said.
This is my stance, too. How many named QB's have the Jets brought in who turned out to be not worth it? Boomer Esiassen - soso, likeable, but nothing fantastic. Neil O'Donnell - SB QB - absolutely stank beyond words. Vinny T - all things considered - a great pick up, but we kept him around too long. Farve - horrible, given the cost and the mega-fold at the end of the year. We will call this 1 (VT) out of 4. My point - I want the Jets to find their future QB; not buy or trade for one. The odds of getting payoff are stacked against us.
All you need to do is look at the Jets recent moves and you will know exactly what the Jets are going to do with Cutler. They are in desperation mode paying high price tickets to create a big splash. Jets have been building a win-now team for the past few seasons and there is no reason to suspect that they won't follow this approach now that Cutler is available. Hell, they were even one of the first teams to announce that they were interested in him if he became available. Besides, PSL sales are behind schedule and there would be no better way to increase interest than bring in big-name player like Cutler. Even though it contradicts Ryan's defense first approach, the bottom line is that it is a business and the Jets will be hurting if they don't sell their PSLs. Business 101.
Go back and read what you said. You made the point that everybody is drafted. What point were you trying to make? My point was that as many busts are drafted as stars. You don't know what you are getting.
Too many health concerns for me... Diabetes is a serious medical problem especially for a football player. IMO the Jets should save their draft picks and money. There just might have a franchise QB on the roster.
That Agent is stoned. Denver undercut any leverage they would have had, by dragging this out. Now everyone knows Cutler has zero intention of going back, he's now Denvers problem.
Quote: "...The next day you hear rumors about him bringing in a guy he had previously worked with in Boston and if he will accept the job offer you will be fired...." This is where the analogy breaks down totally. There is no serious jeopardy for Mr. Cutler in the situation, as you imply. He will still be under his existing contract, and if the 'winning' team gets its way, they will shower him with a generous multi-year extension. In your analogy, firing puts all the onus on the employee. Final Jeopardy. Not the case in the starting NFL QB's world.
Yeah okay. Let's put our eggs in 2 guys who haven't done crap rather than a guy who is proven and only 25! That's a Franchise QB...We've been patient for too long.
Wow are you really this dense? I said that EVERY player was drafted including the great ones. The best teams in the league are those that value draft picks, draft well, and groom and resign those players. How does that in any way equate to you saying that the only value a draft pick has is in a trade? As for trading a player that you "already know what you are getting," there is validity to that statement. But that is a completely different argument than the one you were making before.
