It's scrolling on the NFL network: It?s official: QB Jay Cutler and the Denver Broncos are getting a divorce. After a contentious and over a month-long falling-out between Cutler and new coach Josh McDaniels couldn?t be resolved, Broncos owner Pat Bowlen issued the following statement today: ?Numerous attempts to contact Jay Cutler in the last 10 days, both by Head Coach Josh McDaniels and myself, have been unsuccessful. A conversation with his agent earlier today clearly communicated and confirmed to us that Jay no longer has any desire to play for the Denver Broncos. We will begin discussions with other teams in an effort to accommodate his request to be traded.? The bad blood between the QB and McDaniels started in late February when word leaked that the new coach reportedly had discussed a deal that would have brought Matt Cassel to Denver and shipped out Cutler. McDaniels tutored Cassel in New England.
We're going to have to give up a good amount to get him. That said, whomever the potential trading partner is with Denver in this deal has some leverage now. The fact alone that Bowlen made it public says that they are at a complete impasse and are desperate to move ahead without Cutler. We may be able to give up less than previously thought to get him.
Denver now WANTS to move Cutler so here's the offer. Jets get: Cutler and Lamont Jordan Broncs get: Thomas Jones Jets #1 pick (#17) Clemens or Ratty Throw in Brad Smith Eric Smith and Bryan Thomas just to get rid of 'em
If we can get him for a second rounder (not gonna happen, I know) fine, otherwise, no thanks. When the end of the season rolls around I don't think his numbers or his team's record is going to be any better than Clements/Ratliff (whichever of the two starts) or the Jets'.
