Some players who have gotten hurt in the WBC: Alfredo Amezaga Ryan Braun Robinson Cano Chipper Jones Matt Lindstrom Damaso Marte Dustin Pedroia Hanley Ramirez Of course people also get hurt in spring training, but several of these players (Cano, Jones, Lindstrom) have specifically said that they hid injuries, or pushed themselves through discomfort, because of the so-called "importance" of the WBC (Pedroia has also said that he would have played with his injury if he hadn't been told not to by one of the coaches). This is perfectly reasonable in August and September, and maybe even in May and June, but it is absolute insanity in March.
Actually they ripped the nail off his foot. His manager then told him to foul off a ball on his foot his first time up the next game , and act like it just happened.

So the Mets released Ron Villone, and will likely go into the season with only one lefty reliever. Anybody know why?
SI picked the Mets to win the WS over the Angels. As much as people bitch about there being too much Brooklyn Dodgers in the park and not enough NY Giants, I think the black and orange really pays tribute to them in its own way.
Are people really bitching about that? I haven't heard it. The green seats are in fact a tribute to the Polo Grounds (where the seats were all green), but the fact of the matter is that the Polo Grounds was an incredible dump with absolutely no charm (it was absolutely horrible by the time the Mets got there), so paying tribute to it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. On the other hand, I have heard about Gary Carter bitching that he wasn't picked to catch the last pitch at Shea or the first pitch at Citi Field. For someone who cares so much about his public image, he really is remarkably tone-deaf on such matters.
Hopefully with Putz we have a guy who can be relied on to retire batters from both sides of the plate in the late innings.
