Im just glad I don't see 13 Pettigrew threads, just like Cutler threads. Couple threads are fine I guess but to have a dozen threads? Oh yeah, if u wanna get into my field of work, you'll need a seperate office so your boss can't see you and just spend the whole day surfing TGG...lol
The OP makes a fair point. We already have a solid WR core; the only thing missing is a tall end-zone threat. Pettigrew can fill that role and the hole we have at TE. Drafting him really wouldn't be such a terrible move. btw, there's already a thread expressing our interest in Pettigrew. Just sayin'.
Actually Pettigrew ran a 4.87 at the combine and was a huge disappointment. So if you want him as a blocking TE okay, but don't expect him to run past any linebackers. Not sure this is worth the 1.17 pick.
Well, my original premise is that Pettigrew fills a gaping hole AND frees up Keller to be deployed as a weapon all over the field, inside and out.
do you really think keller is going to be productive if we dont have any wr that anyone needs to worry about? do you REALLY think it would be that tough to gameplan against him if there are no other receivers? if he were the focal point of our passing attack it would be terrible, here you have a guy everyone KNOWS isnt going to block anything so you have tipped your hand toward a pass already and then have noone else to throw to. nobody else that cant be handled with single coverage..
We already have 2 solid WRs in Cotch and Stuckey and we have Clowney who has the potential to be a play-maker. In addition to that we have Keller and Leon who have both shown they can be great options. What else do we really need besides a taller, end-zone target?
I stated in the other thread that if we were to pick up a TE early I'd rather go for Chase Coffman in the 2nd or 3rd round. Seems like a better fit for our team with Keller already on the roster and is reportedly a strong blocker with great hands. Also he never assaulted a police officer like Pettigrew has and isn't turning 25 already like Pettigrew is. Chase Coffman scouting report: http://walterfootball.com/scoutingreport2009ccoffman.php Brandon Pettigrew scouting report: http://walterfootball.com/pro2009bpettigrew.php I'm no expert but after reading both scouting reports I'd go with Coffman in the 2nd or 3rd and saving our first round pick on another need like DE or WR.
First of all, stuckey has potential, he hasn't proven to be solid. We have 1 solid wr and that's cotch. Pettigrew is slow, has average hands and is not a red zone threat like some people here seem to think. We do need a blocking te but if we draft one with a first day pick I think my head will explode. Rb,de,wr are more pressing needs to be filled with our first day picks. Anyone who thinks different has drank the coolaid.
look, i agree that we need to add a WR. however, let me twist your point around a little bit: forgetting wide receivers for a second... do you really think that keller is going to be productive if we don't have a true nasty blocking TE on the field? as it stands right now, if keller's in the game, its a passing play. your solution would be to add a WR so as not to tip our hand where the ball is going to be thrown to, i think. however, wouldn't it be better to have the ability to line keller up and not tip our hand that its a passing play? this can best be accomplished by adding a nasty blocking TE, not necessarily another wide receiver. bottom line... jets need help at both TE and WR. i'm just saying that pettigrew would fill a big need, even if its not the sexiest position on the field. if the FO feels that pettigrew is a better/surer prospect at his position than nicks/dhb/britt are at their position, then selecting pettigrew is not a bad move. it would free up keller, give the jets tons of flexibility, and fill a giant hole.

I think Stuckey proved he could be a solid starter last year. As for Pettigrew, I don't watch enough college ball so I'm just going by what I hear, which was that he had good hands and height and is a good blocker. I haven't heard a whole lot of negatives aside from his 40 time, but that isn't really a tell-all.
I think that this would be more of luxury pick than one of need. We will be able to get an on the line tight end in later rounds of the draft. I say that we try to move up to get Crabtree.
This is not a bad idea. Truth be known, Keller is more of a WR than he is a true TE, so taking Pettigrew isn't the end of the world. I don't know... it's all going to hinge on BPA at the time also. If I were Tanny, it's one more idea to put on my legal pad and prioritize on draft day, which is always an ever-changing situation minute by minute. Throw in opportunities to trade up and trade down and you've got a three-ring circus going on. It can't be an easy job on Day One, but this is one idea I'd consider.
I like where your head's at. I'm not opposed at all to stacking the o-line up. We can run a two tight end set, and have Keller break off in motion at times. I think a tight end is a smart choice.
