Would it be better to wait for the 2010 draft to go for a rookie QB? Since it looks like the QB class looks like there are alot better prospects in that draft. Just to name a few possible QBs:

    Sam Bradford
    Tim Teebow
    Jevan Snead**
    Colt McCoy
    Zac Robinson
    Tim Hiller
    Pat Devlin**
    Jimmy Clausen
    Dan LeFevour**
    Daryll Clark

**Some of these names I listed could be eligible for the 2010 draft or could elect to stay another year and come out for the 2011.

So what do you people think?

There is the very real possibility that we don't find our future Peyton Manning in 2009, so it's certainly worth looking at and thinking about.

It would be much cheaper to grab a better one in the 2010 draft then to trade the farm for Cutler. Thats of course if Clemens or Ratliff dont work out.

Yeah being the 2009 draft supposedly only has 3 qbs worth looking at.

I am really liking Jevan Snead.

If the Lions pass on a QB with the #1 as most reports are indicating, we could very well have one, if not both, of the top two QB's handed to us at #17.

Exactly lets give it a year and see what we have at QB now I know there alot of people that aren't real high on KC and there are alot of people that are high on BR but how about erik ainge. I say lets really see what we have have this year since there is no pressure of playing behind Favre. There is just that pressure of playing to see if you can be a starter since there are no legitimate starters on this team unlike the previous years with pennington and Favre.

but it would be much more expensive to waste a pick on a QB that doesn't pan out then trade for a proven Pro-Bowl QB.

But are they any good or just the top of a mediocre class? We're set with young, unproven guys for now.

True but its also no gaurantee that Cutler would pan out in NY. He wouldn't have the weapons that he has in Denver and he would be playing in a different system.

I dont think any of the QBs expected in 1st round this year would be 1st rounders next year. So yes if Brett or Kellen don't work out then get QB next year not this.

I think Cutler would would work out well in the offense as long as Brian Shotty runs the same type of offense he ran in San Diego when they had Drew Brees where it took a strong armed qb to make the throws Brees was doing. Rivers doesnt have the strongest arm either but some of the plays that shotty was running and san diego as an assistant did work out for Rivers also. And like people said Cutlers arm is ideal for the weather in East Rutherford.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone say that Sanchez and Stafford aren't any good. Both will be good NFL quarterbacks, it's just a matter of how long they will have to sit before they are ready to go.

Now there's an oxymoron if I ever saw one...

Clemens/Ratliff would be working with the same recieving corps as Cutler would, so that argument works both ways...

I'm just asking, I don't follow much college ball besides Rutgers.

But you know what I mean, drafting a QB now is just another young guy thrown into the stew with the three we already have. We drafted Ainge last year, we have Clemens and Ratliff a few years into the sitting/grooming process, at what point does someone step up and play?

I would rather wait until next year. As you stated there are more good Qb's to choose from plus we get a chance to see what our guys have.

Yeah but we wouldn't be giving up a ton of picks if they didn't pan out. I would take Cutler for the right price in a heartbeat but really who knows if he'll be able to adjust to the pressure of playing in New York. I highly doubt the Broncos trade Cutler away for anything less then 2 1st rounders and at least a 3rd, and thats if they even plan to trade him.

I don't know how many more years this franchise can put off rolling the dice on a legitament first round prospect who has a chance at being our next franchise QB.

Does a legit first round prospect fall to #17 if he's that good? Or do we need to give up the farm to move up for one? If we do, we might as well get Cutler.

If none of the young guys pans out this year the dice will be rolled in the 2010 draft. Rex can not afford not to draft a Qb or his job will be on the line. This year he gets a pass.

Players fall based on the lack of need at their respective position, not necessarily their lack of athletic ability.

It makes sense for at least one of the two QB's this year to fall to #17 because there are only 1 or two 2 teams ahead of us that would need a quarterback, and Detroit is one of them.
