Look at his other recent argument - TJ still has a lot left. There's an underlying reason... save the picks so we can trade for Cutler. Now this one... Clemens isn't a viable option... hmm, there's some sort of trade rumors going around concerning a certain QB. It's a Cutler obsession.
Good job of putting two and two together...The covers have been pulled off his face. Cutler would be nice to have but you know what? The man has yet to lead his franchise to the playoffs and if you ask me...The Jets have a solid Defense and maybe even a great Defense put together for the 09 season, two solid RB's and a strong O-Line...We dont NEED Cutler to win games, we can win with what we have
What Oregon has a history of at this point is sending under-prepared QB's with unusual mechanics to the NFL. Here's the full list of recent QB draftees, and because of the Ducks wide open offense there have been a bunch of their QB's drafted to fail in the NFL. 2008- Dennis Dixon 2006- Kellen Clemens 2002 - Joey Harrington 2001 - AJ Feely 1999 - Akili Smith That's a bunch of guys who looked really good in the NCAA ranks and then came to the pros and threw like Frankenstein on crack.
Great point. It doesn't get much worse than Akili Smith, those top 5 QB washouts are franchise killers.
2008- Dennis Dixon 5th round pick who projected to be nothing more than a career backup. He got drafted by the Steelers who have Rothlisberger for the next 5-10 years. 2006- Kellen Clemens The jury is still out. 2002 - Joey Harrington Drafted by the Lions in the first round. They then surrounded him with receiver after receiver and never drafted to protect him. 2001 - AJ Feely Another 5th round pick who was projected to be nothing more than a career backup. 1999 - Akili Smith This is a good example from 10 years ago. I think Clemens went through 3 different offensive coordinators while at Oregon didn't he? I'm not sure how much correlation you can draw between Oregon QB's when there offense changes so much. Your argument seems like a big stretch to me.
Are there any Oregon QBs who have succeeded in the NFL? Looks like Penn State RBs minus Curt Warner and Franco Harris.
I'm not sure it's really relevant given the turnover at the OC position. I found some old ones on wiki. Dan Fouts Norm Van Brocklin Chris Miller showed some flashes but never lived up to his 1st round status.
Fouts was great, Miller was decent at times, had that one year with Atlanta when they went to the Super Bowl, also with Jamaal Anderson. The recent Oregon QBs haven't fared so well, hopefully Clemens bucks the trend.
No they haven't, but I'm still not convinced it really means anything. What schools have a recent trend of consistent NFL QB success? Which ones don't have 1st round busts over the last 10 years?
Ok...Whats your point? Darren McFadden broke the alltime SEC rushing record for most yards on the ground, does that mean that he's going to be better than E.Smith, H.Walker and plenty of others? I mean...He broke the alltime SEC record so he must be the next best thing in the same types of ways that Kellen must be the next bust because QB's that played for his school never made it. What college did Randy Moss go to? Marshall right? How many HOF WR's come from Marshall? The way you judge...Moss would have never been givin a chance because WR's before him never made it (You get the point)?
FTR, I purposely left out the link. The point of this thread was to prompt everyone to open their eyes and do their own research on Clemens instead of playing follow-the-leader as usual. You can find the scouting reports I quoted without too much difficulty with a simple Google search. I'm not being biased - he displays good footwork and instincts, but that's about all he has going for him. The negatives far outweigh the positives with Clemens IMO. I've said it before: if the kid goes out and makes something of himself, I'll be the first one on here congratulating him and saying I was wrong. But I'm not too worried about that right now. Yeah, I want Cutler. What's your point? Anyone who seriously considers themselves a Jets fan would be out of their mind NOT to want Cutler QB'ing for us over the 3 knuckleheads currently on the roster. I could have told you the same thing had you asked. You act like it's a big secret. So, thank you Capt. Obvious - have you ever considered being a PI?
I'm a Jet fan and I wouldn't give up too much for Cutler that it would cripple what we're trying to do. If he were already here I'd be rooting for him, but I'm not in favor of making some ridiculous trade for him.
1) Joey Harrington sucks. Period. 2) Akili Smith is easily one of the biggest busts in NFL Draft history. 3) I agree that the Jury is still out on Clemens. This is a big year for him.
Fair enough. I'm sure the Lions idea of developing him didn't help. I never said he wasn't a bust. Yeah I'd say it's pretty much now or never for him.
The only thing that would rope us Cutler is a trade of Keyshawn-to-the-Bucs proportions. Would you be amicable of trading 2 ist round picks plus some lower round pick to get Cutler? Because that's a conservative value for what he would cost.
I am a Jets fan that doesnt want Cutler I think he would be a TO for our team he seems way to much a prima donna. It seems like its always about Me instead of Team or at least that is what it seems like from the media coverage of this whole situation. The cost in terms of Draft picks would put us back a year or two in terms of young talent.
And to add to that (only because I have madden 09 and man..there are tons of guys who are 99 overall) I too would have a wish list of players I would love to have on the roster. Its a dangerous game when you start using picks..high end picks to satisfy a dream. When you have used two number 2 picks..one on a kicker..and one on a qb and now you still have to give up a decent amount of very valuable picks for the same position, MT is playing with a bit of fire...and his free spending on free agents the past couple years shows what happens when you draft so crazily. While some picks have been good...other valuable slots have been nightmares. To answer dharris52's point that any one that considers themselves a serious Jet fan would want Cutler...Yes..I would want him if he was a free agent. Lets look at what Ryan has done since he has been named coach. He is building a defense. He has stated that this Jet defense will make other teams not want to play us on Sundays. Those arent my words..those are his words..and Im hoping that comes true. Throwing away 3 top picks for a top flight qb makes no sense to the off season the front office has had. If the Jets want to improve the qb position because they truly believe that person is not on the current roster..there are ways to do it that make sense with the direction the front office has gone this past year. While the qb position is very important, Ryan comes from a franchise that won a superbowl with a true has been in Dilfer and we have seen many teams go far with a ball control offense and great defenses.
If another solid starter is added at wide reciever Clemens could easily have a solid year with this oline and a running game thats going to be doing most of the grunt work anyway.
This statement may not have the hype level of the talk about getting Cutler here, but it is imo quite an accurate assessment, and is more likely to happen than us seeing Cutler in a Jet uniform.
