NFL Network's Mike Lombardi is "hearing" that Brady Quinn might not be part of the Browns' future plans. "(Quinn's) support has left the building," said Lombardi. "We used to call it sponsorship at the Raiders." By "sponsorship," Lombardi is hinting that Quinn's defenders are no longer there. Quinn hasn't necessarily done anything wrong, but he could go on the trade block if Eric Mangini isn't sold on him. Rotoworld Most rumors that link Cutler to the Jets have the Browns involved as a third team trading Quinn to Denver, but is it possible that we offer up a few Mangini guys for Quinn? Personally, I've never been a huge fan of Quinn, but he could provide good competition for Ratliff and addition motivation. This is my trade for Cutler, make of it what you want (of course I'd rather hear legitimate criticisms and such than "omg ur an idiot!!!", but feel free to respond however you want, freedom of speech and all) Broncos get: Brady Quinn (CLE), 1st rounder (NYJ), 4th rounder (NYJ), 5th rounder (CLE) Browns get: Tony Scheffler (DEN), Kellen Clemens (NYJ), Bryan Thomas (NYJ), Abram Elam (NYJ), Dwight Lowery (NYJ) Jets get: Jay Cutler (DEN)
If you wanted to take a shot at Brady Quinn, I don't think the market will be as great for him as Cutler. You could probably snag him for a couple of Mangini's butt buddies (B. Thomas, A. Elam?) and maybe a 3rd rounder.
Thats the only reason I'd be interested in Quinn, I think he'd be a lot cheaper than Cutler and perhaps even come to us a bit cheaper than he should. I've never been sold on Quinn and I never really saw him as developing into a really good QB, but he could provide good competition/motivation for Ratliff or even prove me wrong and develop into a good NFL QB.
Quinn is as unproven as what we already have. I'd rather take my chance with what we got. Cutler is a different story cause he's already a proven QB.
Towing the company line... " if we can get him cheap" Listen... people... franschise QB's don't come "CHEAP". There is an old addage, you get what you pay for... I.E.... look at our starting QB... get the point... I hope so.
Your solution is to give up 4 players AND 2 draft picks for Cutler? Player trades are awfully rare for a reason.
If the Browns traded Quinn for a couple of shitty spare parts and a third round pick after they traded back into the first round to draft him, they should get sold and moved to Baltimore again. They wouldn't deserve to be.
Those shitty spare parts hold more value with Mangina because they are "his guys". He has already brought 4 ex-Jets to Cleveland with him and was openly high on both Thomas and Elam. Never say never - stranger things have happened.
So for 1 QB we are giving up a back up qb, a 2nd year corner with a great upside in Lowery, a solid LB in Thomas, an OK safety and ST player, 1st and 4th round draft picks... We would need more than just Cutler for that to work.
I actually really like Quinn... but I guess it's not going to happen. I'd give away B. Thomas, A. Elam and a 2nd rounder in a heartbeat though
My god it's like nobody on this godforsaken internet knows what kind of value a potential franchise QB has in the NFL, or how trades work. I feel like I'm on HFBoards. Ryder, Halak, and a 2nd for Jay Cutler.
I didn't say he was... but since NO-ONE has seen him play yet, and he came out as a first rounder, who was rated as an NFL ready QB, that already puts him 2 rungs higher than the 3 projects we have on our roster... also, if you actually READ the post, it was in reference to the eternal company line here for any player that someone on the board might suggest... "IF HE COMES CHEAP"... In the NFL, anyone worth a spot on your squad, does not come CHEAP. So... try looking into your crystal ball and reading some more into my words...
You mean like Cassell and Vrabel getting traded for a 2nd Rounder?? Just what is your definition of a "potential franchise QB"? What has Quinn proven? Not every former 1st Round QB is going to command a fistfull of picks on the trade block.
that was a backroom deal that the NFL should investigate... that deal is so shady... and amazingly... no one is asking questions... a second rounder for 2 starters... BULLS@#$!
You know what Cleveland says if they trade into the first round to take a quarterback, have him start 3 games in 2 years, and then trade him for a hot cup of asshole? They say, "We fucking suck."
But don't forget...the Patsies cleared close to $20M in cap space with that deal, so it's not as one sided as it initially looks. Who knows though.
