Seriously. Rex comes here, and is going to establish a RUN FIRST team. Why do you guys want a WR, especially one like Nicks? The best WR will be Britt, a 6'4, 4.4 forty guy. Tall, fast, good hands. That is the receiver we want, and we could get him with our second possibly.

How about getting Beanie Wells? Jones is 31, and this is probably his last year with the Jets. We all know Leon can't handle the load by himself, so we draft Wells, have even more fresh legs (therefore, we can run the ball 35 times a game and pass 15, therefore not needing a prolific passing game). Beanie is a great runner with tremendous power and speed.

I HIGHLY doubt we draft a WR in the first round

It's a message board. Some people feel differently. Life goes on.

I think we'll take Freeman or Sanchez, but I completely get the idea of taking a WR.

Even though Rex is establishing a run-first offense, we still need some playmakers at WR. If Clemens/Cutler/Sanchez/Freeman has a few options, it will only make our run game more dangerous.

how do you expect o run without a pass attack.. i dont care how good or how many RBs we have on our team.. if defenses stack 8 in the box.. we're not going anywhere..

i personally like Britt a lot.. 6'4 215.. hes definietly got the size.. but Nicks has great hands.. and a hard guy to bring down.. 6'1 215 isnt too bad either..

we cant run if we dont throw... WR is the deepest position in this draft..prob why it seems like all you hear about is WR.. but i mean TJ led the AFC in rushing last season.. hes gettin old... but he still has a couple more seasons in him.. at least has the ability to take the load off leon.. yeah leon prob can't take 25 carries a game.. but he should be able to increase his run load a lil more..

and im not sure what you mean by tremendous speed.. cause beenie is not that fast.. iv watched him play.. hes a solid RB.. and would be a nice combo with washington.. but really think we need to address WR before we start lookin to RB...

We have Cotch who is a good possession receiver. Clowney is the speedster, we have to give him the shot. Stuckey has had flashes of brilliance in the limited time he has had to show himself off. Keller is the big TE threat we need. I don't see why we need another receiver, to bury Stuckey/Clowney down the roster?

See- Minny...Carolina (yes, Delhomme is a terrible QB and Stewart/Williams held that team)...Baltimore!...

What do all those teams have in common?

    Strong o line
    Good possession receiver
    Speedy guy

    What do the Jets have?

    strong o line
    Good possession
Speedy guy (who are are not sure can play)

Teams can win games with the strong running game. Nicks will be a poor mans Cotch, so why do we need two of them?

umm.. NO.. minny has this guy named adrian peterson..not sure if you know him.. hes kinda good.. not too bad.. broke rushing record his rookie season..

and carolina.. steve smith.. hes just a little bit better than "a good posession reciever"
.. dont compare any of our RB to adrian peterson or any of our WRs to steve smith..

Who on here is calling Clemens a hall of famer?

Really, get your facts straight before you post.

Just remember...a 1st round WR is of no use without a QB with the ability to throw the ball to him.

Those who are calling for the Jets to draft a WR at #17 have their priorities all jacked up.

WR is about the 5th thing I would be looking at with that first round pick if I was the Jets. they still need DL, LB, OT (Woody really is not that good and he's not going to be around a lot longer - he hasn't been on any of his other post-NE stops either) and QB (if one is there).

WR is what you add when you have most of the other pieces in place. Adding one early, like adding a RB, is just a waste of resources.

I'm glad you either have (a) a strong reading comprehension or (b) no knowledge of football.

look at the three things I listed...one of them is SPEEDY receiver, and what is smith? i don't think he is a possession receiver

stop trying to talk down to me like you think you know everything, when it is clear you don't know much

holy christ...do you even watch football??!! Nicks is a stud....the guy is a mini Anquan Boldin...who the hell wouldn't want that on the Jets roster?! I would take him over Beanie Wells any day of the week.

Look at the history of the draft, it is much easier to find a RB in the deeper rounds of the draft. Also a RB can step right in as a rookie while a WR needs time to develop.

The fact of the matter is that if Sanchez is gone, WR is one of the positions that holds the most value at the #17 pick. BPA is very likely to be a WR there, and it's still a big need for us. Yes, Stuckey and Clowney have potential. However, they were later round picks for a reason. A guy like Nicks or Britt would fill a need and be very high up on the value chart. I personally like Nicks as I think that he's very similar to Anquan Boldin in his ability to catch the ball and run after the catch. Personally, I think you're dreaming if you think Britt will be there at #54. The guy was impressive at the combine and was already likely out of our second pick's reach before that. I think his floor is the early second round.

I wouldn't be too distraught with a RB in the first, but I'd rather Moreno than Wells. I like Wells' game, but his injuries scare the crap out of me and I don't think he'll hold up in the NFL. However, my problem with drafting a RB in the first is that the demand is so low for RB's in the NFL that some good talents could slip to our second pick like LeSean McCoy and Donald Brown.

As for other positions where we need depth, like LB and OT, I think we'd be better off going there later in the draft. However, DE is another desirable choice at #17. I would be very happy if we go Jarron Gilbert in the first, as he looks like the full package for a 3-4 DE. I'm very iffy about Tyson Jackson; I feel like he'll be another Kenyon Coleman, who's above average against the run but spotty against the pass. Another one to look out for is Ziggy Hood, but I only see him being taken if Gilbert's off the board.

Also, don't count out a defensive back, especially if Malcolm Jenkins falls. Jim Leonhard is a very good backup, but he may be exposed over the course of a full season and bringing in a guy who could potentially start at S and slide over to CB as well like Jenkins or Sean Smith would be very valuable in this Rex Ryan D.

Oh, and say no to Josh Freeman. His size and arm are hiding the fact that the majority of his numbers in college were compiled in garbage time. At #17, I say Sanchez is the only QB I take who could be there. I'd also take a look at Rhett Bomar and maybe a few other guys in the third or later.

To sum up, at #17 my board would likely go:
    Mark Sanchez
    WR (Nicks, Britt)
    Jarron Gilbert
    DB (Jenkins, Smith)
    Moreno

    Agreed.

While I like Sean Smith I don't think we go with DB

Sanchez or WR like nicks or britt is prolly the best bet.
