I believe out of the 5 Jets QB's who got to the playoffs, Chad and OBrien are the only ones who failed to get the Jets past the second round. He and OBrein are also the only Jets QB to make the playoffs to have a lossing record in the playoffs.

That's another distorted fact, almost as good as Quincy Carter's winning pct at 2-1. Vinny started in the second round, Namath didn't have a second round. Pat Ryan actually was the only QB to win a playoff game between Todd and Vinny (think about that!), O'Brien never won one. Also, Namath at 2-1 is the only Jet over 500 as a playoff starter, mainly because he never got back there after 1969.

Point being--once again--Pennington has gotten there four times and won twice, hence my point that Miami is a good bet to get there again if he stays healthy.

What's distorted about Carter winning percentage? On the same team as Pennington, he won 2 out of three. Maybe any second rate QB could have won with the 04 team? Clemens also had a better winning % than Chad on the same team.

You're argument apparently is you need to get to the playoffs to win a SB. Mine is you need to do more than get to the playoffs you need to make plays in the playoffs.

You obviously need to go to the playoffs in order to win a Super Bowl, there is no other way. So after counting Super Bowl titles, you next look at how many times you get to the playoffs, because that's the first goal before you can accomplish the second. And as we have established, Chad is tied with Namath and Todd for the team lead in winning games in the playoffs.

The point about Carter is laughable. He was 2-1, beating the Browns and Cards, who were the two worst teams at that time. To trump up his winning pct at 2-1 as a more significant or even remotely close contribution as Chad winning 8 games, which you love to do, is a joke.

I would hope that we all never have to settle for records of numbers of winning games in the playoffs. Winning playoff games doesn't and shouldn't count. Winning the big one counts.

Well, since we have all of one Super Bowl to keep track of, it's pretty easy to regard Namath as #1. After that all we have is playoff wins to go by--we're not the Steelers or the 49ers, so for now we do have to settle for that. Sorry if you don't like that and sorry if you didn't like Chad, but his place in Jets post-season history is what it is. People can try to minimize it or make excuses why it shouldn't be, or why they think he's no good, but facts are facts. As of now the Jets post-season QB win ledger goes as follows: Namath, Todd and Pennington 2 wins each, Vinny and Pat Ryan one win each. Like it or hate it, that's the truth.

Also, I disagree that playoff wins don't count. They are the only way to get to a Super Bowl, so they certainly count.

Who said it was more significant? The 04 team won with D and a great running attack. Carter actually should have been 3 and 0 but the coaching staff screwed up at the end of the Baltimore game.

What Chad did in 04 was manage a good team to 8 wins. Carter managed that same team to 2 wins in three tries. Chad played very poorly in the Pittsburgh game and we should have won anyway we didn't need great QB play to win in 04 we needed adequate QB play. The fact is Chad was a game manager in 04 and a good one. He lost to the good teams and beat the crap out of the bad teams with the exception of a young SD team which we beat twice mostly behind Curtis Martin and the D and a great special teams play.

My contention is you need something more than that to go all the way, you need a playmaker at QB.

You win as a team, sometimes the QB makes plays, like Chad did against us in Week 17, sometimes your kicker makes a kick, like Doug Brien didn't do in Pittsburgh. I'm not saying Chad can carry a team on his back, very few QBs can, look at Peyton Manning. My point is simply, for the 100th time, he's a good enough QB to win with and that has been proven over and over again. You keep trying to disprove that but you can't and you won't.

Now you win as a team but Chad took us to the playoffs 3 times and Miami once. I guess it was the team that earned that 2 and 4 playoff record not Chad's substandard play in the playoffs but Chad carried those teams to the playoffs. Got it.

Sometimes the QB picks the team up, sometimes the other way around. If one or the other isn't capable you don't win, see 2003 and 2005 as prime examples--same team, no Chad, bad records. This isn't complicated stuff.

They weren't the same teams in 03 and 05 just like they weren't in 06, 07 and 08.

in 05 there were 12 players on IR, 7 of which who were important starters. 07 can be used.

My point stands. A healthy Chad, which Miami has right now, translates normally into a 10-win season and a likely playoff appearance. Split all the hairs you want over the past or Quincy Carter or whatever, that's what we have to deal with in our division, along with Brady being back with the Pats.

Normally a healthy Chad? He has never had back to back healthy seasons. He has an 11 game win season a 10 game win season two 8 game win seasons, 8 and 4 in 02, 8and 5 in 04, a 4 and 5 season in 03 a 1 and 2 in 05 and 1 and 7 in 07. For the NY Jets including the playoffs Chad Pennington has a game start record of 34 and 32.
