I would rather trade for Colston the Edwards. I think Colston would fit into our system better with the players we already have.
A trade for Edwards would only really be attractive because it gives you some certainty you dont get with the draft. Not only is he a more or less proven commodity, but you trade for him, youve got the position locked down. Wait for the draft, and the guy you're hoping for at 17 could be gone, and then maybe you've got nothing. Its a pretty safe bet that the Jets will have at least one wide receiver on the opening day roster that isn't on the team yet. I think Marvin Harrison, if he comes down to earth and decides to play in 09 for a reasonable price, could be a possibility. Supposedly Torry Holt is trying to force his way out of St. Louis, hes quite a bit younger than Harrison but neither is in their prime, Holt's closer and could reasonably command a pretty sizeable contract. I dont think theres anybody else really available in FA, so its either a trade, or the draft. My moneys on the draft, the Browns might consider moving Edwards but they've got to figure out who their quarterback is, so stability at wideout becomes somewhat important, especially since they just shipped Winslow down the river. Hoping for Jeremy Maclin, personally. But one way or another I'd bet on somebody with some deep speed, since that's about all Cotchery doesnt have. And dont buy the 'banking on Clowney' thing, Im sure hes got fans and Im sure hell get some play time, but he wont be a starter in 2009.
I would give up #17 for Edwards, or a 2nd and Thomas. We will not get a better WR at #17. Our biggest need is WR.
Edwards for our first is absolutely absurd! Cassel and Vrabel were traded for a second, same with winslow. I live in the Cleveland area and have a lot of friends who are Browns fans and I know they can't stand him, I would definately pass on this one
I'm with the crowd who says a 2nd rounder and Bryan Thomas. Now the Jets would probably have to give him an extension, just depends what you're going to pay this guy. But this guy has the talent of a #1 receiver, hell look at his season 2 seasons ago, we know he's got it...Nobody gives a shit when Terrell Owens drops his passes, as long as he puts up those numbers. With that said...Very doubtful, but it would be nice to have a 6'4 receiver.
your response still makes no sense lol im not sure i would make this move for a starter plus a draft pick.... but if the jets do move b thomas they are saying they have faith in gholston which rex said himself already he doesnt fully have and vernon will have to prove himself... after vernons season last year i dont think you can then throw him into the fire on an every down basis... if b thomas is involved the jets have to say no...however if there is another package that can work out i would explore it braylon had a bad year last year but is a great player....he'd be worth as high as a 2nd rounder alone or a 3rd plus a marginal player

If anyone thinks Edwards is worth a first or second round pick you're out of your mind. He's a dropper and droppers will fuck you over.
As with the Boldin trade idea, I might give up our 1st round pick for Braylon Edwards. But on second thought, his drops were a bit of a problem last year. Then again Cleveland was just a mess.. Maybe a 2nd is more realistic though...
His post makes perfect sense. Because Edwards is the league leader in DROPS! He's vastly over rated. I would not give up more then a 4th for him.
If we trade him it won't be dead money and it shouldn't be hard to find an OLB that can fill his shoes. If Rex has his hand in the defense, I honestly don't see Thomas starting for us next season. Maybe that's just wishful thinking though.

As the sole member of the Brad Smith fan club I think both our young WRs and our young QBs need to be given a shot. Shore up other positions, we still need an OLB and quality back up LBs and we need quality backups at RB and OL and our DEs are ancient. But our QBs and WRs are young and have potential, give them a chance.
Man I just looked at the last 10 years of 1st round wr's drafted and the misses outnumber the hits by about a 10-1 ratio. Edwards for 17th pick sounded crazy before I looked at the draft history. Now it seems completely reasonable. No receiver is ever worth a first in a trade..very few are worth a second. Moss cost NE a fourth. People can say what they want about him in Oakland but he was still Randy Moss.
Unless the rules have changed, we will take that hit...We are still counting for $3mil against our cap for Chad Pennington. He was released obviously, but I assume its the same in trades. Besides, nobody would want to take his contract on board. They would rather sign another LB in FA than him or through draft. Its not like he's a superstar or anything. I'd like to see him being released next off season. We'll save about $4mil on the cap if he's cut so he's the first one IMO. No to Edwards. Rather sign TO with zero compensation besides his contract.
