It certainly seems like he has something over the Pats. The more you hear about this deal that went down the more it stinks. http://blogs.nbcsports.com/home/archives/2009/03/on-cassel-pats-werent-waiting.html "This helps explain why, just a dozen hours into the 2009 free agent period, a deal for Matt Cassel was already going down. Every team in the league knew Cassel, franchised but expendable because of Tom Brady, was there to be had. One team - the Kansas City Chiefs - made a play. And when no other team took a number and got in line behind the Chiefs, New England took their order. No waiting around. No hand-wringing and flipping a ball off the war room wall trying to decide what to do. Be decisive. So the Patriots got a second rounder - the 34th overall pick for Cassel and veteran outside linebacker Mike Vrabel. Now it's coming to light that the Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers were both interested in making deals that involved Cassel, Denver's Jay Cutler and picks going to New England. The offers went like this according to Adam Schefter of NFL.com. The Lions (or Bucs) would trade for Cassel. They would then ship Cassel to Denver in exchange for Cutler. In Denver, Cassel would be reunited with his offensive coordinator from New England, Josh McDaniel. And the Lions (or Bucs) would have a Pro Bowl quarterback. And the Patriots would have, the scuttlebutt goes, better than the 34th pick. "
Couldn't care less either way.....my concerns lie with how Rex's defense is gonna stomp a mudhole in Tom Brady in 2009
Absolutely. I just don't see Brady coming back in full force. Kevin O'Connell is going to replace him at some point during the next season, I have a feeling, in that, Brady was already beat up like crazy in SB42, then his knee was blown out...the guy will be playing on borrowed time, imho.
Rex's "D" has never beat a TFB led Patriots team.. Almost did, but someone called a TO .. just sayn:breakdance:
Ah yes, O'connell..another undrafted wonder...their luck has run out. He won't replace anybody. They had lightniong strike twice. It won't strike a third time if they wait 100 years.
He had a torn ACL, not triple bypass heart surgery. The MC trade goes a long way as to the health of your favorite QB from the team up north for Pats fans. He's back Favrenstein ..
if its because we stole their awesome DC and best ILB...... i understand. I've always liked them due to Newsome,.. what a consistent GM.
I think I'll trust BB over Don and his assesment of O'Connell. You usually don't pick a QB in round 3 if he sucks
If athletic is all that mattered then Vick would have been the greatest QB to ever play the game. And the Jets picked one in the second round that sucks so I don't know where that comment of yours is coming from.
Dude...i don't care if Brady is back from a paper cut.....as long as C.Pace's cleat print is engrained on Brady's chest, that's all that matters to me.
Just because you don't see it coming doesn't mean it's lightning in a bottle. Obviously they didn't foresee Brady ever becoming what he's become, but with both him and Cassel you have two guys that they scouted a lot out of college and then developed as they grew into the league. Of course there is some luck involved, but we as fans only see what the players do on the field. BB saw Cassel in the filmroom and on the field for years and, Cassel's success reflects on BB's ability to recognize and maximize talent in players. Their ability to see evaluate these guys accurately enough to be the first ones to take them, and probably more importantly the way they developed once they got into the Pats system, is obviously a part of the equation. I don't know a ton about O'Connel, but the fact that they used a 3rd round pick on him rather than someone else to fill a more immediate need makes me think they see a ton of upside in him. And coupled with the Pats track record, I think that provides plenty of room to be optimistic (from my perspective) about his development. But he's going to be irrelevant for at least 4 years anyways because Brady will be back and will never suffer any serious injuries ever again. Edit: And he's not undrafted. He was a third rounder.
