Only the Pats can pull crap like this off http://blogs.nbcsports.com/home/ "It smells like there might be a lot more to the Mike Vrabel to the Chiefs deal than simply a benign "undisclosed" draft pick. New England is locked up tight as a drum this afternoon. There is no conversation going out which is a sure harbinger that there are bigger dominoes wobbling. My speculation? Since Vrabel is only in KC and his acquisition hasn't been officially declared, he is merely a sidebar in the deal. The holdup - and silence - is being caused by something else that's taking place and my guess is that the something else is negotiations between Matt Cassel's agent David Dunn and the Chiefs GM Scott Pioli. Cassel, of course, is the franchised Patriots quarterback who's due to make $14.6 million this year if he stays with the Patriots. If New England deals Cassel, he comes off their books, clearing cap space. And that has me thinking the undisclosed pick is the third overall pick in this draft. So it may well be Cassel and Vrabel to the Chiefs for the third overall pick and - likely - another later round pick. The financial end of this is what makes it a solid deal for the Pats. Between Cassel and Vrabel, there's almost $20 million in cap space getting cleared. Vrabel would have been a free agent after this year so the Pats are going to get something for him they wouldn't have otherwise. "
And they'll trade one of em for a third rounder and a 2010 first rounder, and repeat AGAIN next year.
Up here we're hearing that Vrabel was a salary dump to clear room for a Cassel+ trade to the Panthers for Peppers.
These rumours are priceless...who in his right mind would trade a 3rd overall for a player who could be a one year wonder?
No way the Chiefs are giving up the #3 for Cassell. In fact, I doubt they go for him at all. If anything, knowing the Pioli Belichik blueprint, if KC trades the #3 pick at all, it will be to grab more picks.
guys, this was the plan all along, obviously pioli is still working for the pats, and is a double agent, hes going to give up the 3 pick for cassel and vrabel, and curry and mayo will terrorize us for years to come. That mayo fella is pretty good, remember when we "forced" the pats to take him by taking gholston? What a great move sarcasm if you havent realized it by now
vrabel for undisclosed pick...thats it patriots are in prime position to be drafting an OLB...i don't see much more to it cassell and a pick for peppers would be incredibly upsetting... if the panthers see a player worth trading up for...then i could see peppers and mid to late pick for the #3 a 3-way deal looks way too blockbuster to ever happen
the vikings set the market for peppers with allen last year...1st rd and two 3rd rd picks texans set the market for cassel with schaub...swapped in the first rd and two 2nd rounds(basically three 2nd round picks) (schaub had less experience so cassel would likely catch a little bit more)...I'd say mid to late first...a 2nd and a 3rd or 4th Partiots and Panthers will only be trading to someone if they get a ransom
pioli is obviously still on the pats payroll, it isn't behind there dignity to pull something like that
