With Favre and Coles gone, any interest in briging in Warner and Housh to replace them? This would be my main goal; the offense would be elite. It doesn't make sense to bring in a Warner without a great WR core like he had in AZ, and in my opinion Housh/Cotchery/Keller would be elite, and we'd have a better running game than he had in AZ. With Coles coming off, we could have an amazing 40 million in cap room, which would allow us to say, give 10 mil each per year (say 2 for Warner, 5 for Housh) to these two and then have 20 million left to address the defense (say 8 for Scott, 3 for Leonhard, 6for CB, the rest for depth guys). I know I'm dreamng, but, if we really have 40 mil in cap room, it's reasonable. Thoughts?

TJ yes. Warner no. We do not have an amazing $40 million in cap space. I have no idea where you're getting that from, but it's just not the case.

Well Hutchinson said 37 yesterday, and if Coles frees more cap space, that puts it at more than 40.

We are ~$26 million under the cap right now (with Coles gone) and if Moore gets cut we will be ~$33 million under.

This was before Coles was cut

Warner has pretty much said he will sign with Arizona or retire. He has 7 kids and he won't move his family. He is rich enough to have that option.

Ugh, actually Hutchinson posted this yesterday:

    http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/02/report_on_jets_cap_is_old_news.html

"The moves were made late last month and have already been factored into my cap figures. Thus, the Jets will be approximately $27 million under the salary cap, not $37 million, when the cap numbers of tight end Chris Baker ($2 million) and right guard Brandon Moore ($7 million) come off the books."

So, according to Hutch, they're at $25 million now and looking at about $32 million IF Moore is cut. That's not a certainty. There's also the matter of cap hits due to incentives, etc. Those come off and suddenly we're cutting Moore just to sign our rookies under your plan and there's no money for Bart Scott.

Now that Coles' $6 million is off the books I wouldn't mind spending it on Housh, but the last thing this team needs is another expensive 39 year old wishy washy turnover prone QB .

Yeah, last thing the Jets ever need is a QB that can take a last place team and overachieve them all the way to the superbowl. God forbid.

And I can assure you that figure is bogus.

As for Warner and Housh, no way. Housh is decent. He's not great but good. Warner is done. Maybe one more good year, that too he'd have to 'GEL'. I prefer someone who would have probably another 4 or 5 years left atleast.

    Why Warner?
Jets are better off fining a young QB and develop him. Brett is the prime example why you guys shouldn't sign Warner.
Now with Coles gone, 'deh is a much more realistic option.

Hasn't Warner gone on record with saying it's Arizona or retirement? Anyways, I'd be fine with TJ, but Warner would be Favre all over again.

I would pay the money for who's your mama because he is a welker-esque (but better) type of guy. I do not think he is a number one WR but I think that he could make a living in the slot as a guy that catches a tonne of passes.

I don't think the team can dominate with Housh and Jerricho as the wideouts once Coles is gone and I think bringing in another #1 and having Keller and some pretty good RBs might make it hard to keep Jerricho. It could come down to whether we think we need Jerricho or Housh more....tough call but I would really like to see him on this team.
