I read someplace that this kid is 6-6 and can throw a football through a brick wall. The question then is, can he read and understand Schotts system good enough to hand the ball off in a run-oriented offense and perhaps throw an occasional pass or two in his first year... Can he move around? Is he a quantum leap over what we have now on the Roster? Just curious since the Jets might be drafting a QB should the CS start thinking about using a 1st round pick on a franchise QB and Freeman is the last one on the board when we pick. Mods, please move this to the draft forum and merge... Thank you..
I checked out Youtube for some vids, found a nice one of a pass that traveled 60+ yards through the air, and he threw it on the run. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1VogoHOrow&feature=related
There are a lot of good things about that throw, not just the brilliant distance and accuracy while on the run. But he recognised the pressure, showed speed to get out the pocket and then to make that throw. Very impressive. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoDjfUS7YH0&feature=related Showed a bit of touch agains't Texas Tech
I like Josh Freeman. He's 6'6, 250 lbs. with a strong arm and quick release. Freeman reminds me of Ben Roethlisberger. He will more than likely be there at #17. He's a junior and may need a year or two to learn the NFL system.
I love Freeman. He has the big arm, he's mobile, good mechanics, and he's improved every year so far. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see us starting him at some point during this year. Ryan saw what the Ravens did with Flacco, and Freeman is a similar type of player.
Looking at him. And not taking anything from our guys, because yes this is college competition, but you can see from a couple of plays that his talent is off the charts. The QBs on our roster do not have that raw ability.
Possible. If we don't take him in the first then i don't expect anyone to take him in the first, but he might not drop to our position in the 2nd.
He could go very early in the 3rd, but I don't think the Vikings or Bucs would pass on him in the 1st. He needs to be a Jet.
Hot and Cold, from what i have seen he can thread it when he want's to but sometimes he can run cold and overthrow. He had a 58.6% completion, which was not the best and only good for 62nd in the nation. Then again everyone is crawling over Stafford and he only had a 61.4% completion %.
He's had issues with his accuracy his entire career. At K-State, this kid has had no continuity because their former coach recruited nothing but JUCO players. The talent around him was mediocre, making him look extremely mediocre. His stats got better every year, but a lot of his TD passes came late in 4th quarters...when the opposing team was already well ahead. Freeman's stats come mostly in games that are out of reach. I know that's not all his fault, but he's playing against most of the Big 12's backups. They play an absolutely atrocious non-conference schedule, which they went 3-1 in : (W) beat 1-11 North Texas 45-6 - Freeman played until midway through the 4th (W) beat I-AA Montana State 69-10 - Freeman played the entire game (L) Lost to a horrible Louisville team 38-29 - Freeman was picked twice late in the game (W) beat Louisiana-Lafayette 45-37 - Freeman has another solid game against garbage After that, Kansas State lost 6 of the last 8. They averaged about 27 points a game in those losses, and like I said earlier - Freeman got to play against a lot of second teamers in those losses. This kid had 16 passing TDs before he played in a shootout with the worst team in the Big 12, 2-10 Iowa State...he threw his 4 final, stat-padding TDs against the Cyclones. I hate the Joe Flacco comparison - they are two completely different types of QBs - the only similarities are height and arm strength. Josh Freeman is a poor man's Daunte Culpepper. He'll need a big time receiver to rely on in the NFL.
He does have all the potential in the world from what I have read, but he will need some time to develop into an NFL QB. Say the Jets do land him, he would need to hold a clipboard for at least 1 season... 2 would be much better.
opinion: By Daryl Breault: "With another hot and cold performance, Matt Stafford is proving to be the biggest tease in college football. The positives are obvious: big and tall, rocket arm, a winner, and good intangibles. But the negatives are just as obvious: slow decision making, sloppy mechanics, hit and miss accuracy. I can't fathom Stafford as the #1 pick. Are we really that enamored with arm strength that we will overlook important flaws, such as his inability to hit an ocean from a boat? I just don't get what everyone else seems to see. He made a few nice plays against MSU. He was great for about, oh, 20 minutes of a 60 minute game. The first half of the game he was garbage. I did take notice of the one TD where he faked a short pass and got the safety going away from the receiver and then effortlessly hit the receiver in stride up the middle for an easy TD. That play showed his arm strength and the gunslinger mentality that pops up in him every once in a while. After that he didn't do anything to hurt Georgia, but he doesn't make them better. His positive traits do not show up every play, series and game. He just hasn't elevated the Bulldogs into an elite team nor has he elevated himself into an elite QB. He has improved every season, but he hasn't taken that giant leap forward that would make him a surefire prospect. Right now, he's a game managing QB with a wild streak that can be exciting and effective or ugly and detrimental." At the end of the day. All of them have some dirt Even Peyton Manning had his while in College
