Chad had 3 years to beat out Vinny and couldn't do it. It wasn't until Vinny played himself out of the lineup that Chad got a chance to play. Unlike Clemens, Chad got a chance to play behind a solid OL with substantially more talent than Clemens got to play with. In spite of that Clemens still performed better than Chad on that same team and Chad behind a substantially improved team did fine. Clemens may well prove that he isn't an NFL QB, to date, he hasn't really had that opportunity. I would guess Shottenheimer was kept to make this evaluation. If not, he should have also been fired with Mangini.
You're a pretty observant guy. Remind me again how long it took Tom Brady to beat out Drew Bledsoe.... You may consider following your sage advice.
Clemens has to prove himself in camp, he played in a pro style offense based on West Coast principles that required pre-snap coverage recognition. He has to be more prepared than a QB coming out of college.. I like the idea of Ratliff but when he threw those 70- and 71-yard touchdowns in the preseason opener, it was the Pre-Season!!!
Many good QBs have spent years on the bench trying to learn before taking the field. Kellen isn't the first guy to sit on the bench and learn. GET A CLUE!
Draft position means nothing.... Akili Smith, Alex Smith, Todd Marinovich, Ryan Leaf and many more can be named just as many failures as successes. It is always a crapshoot to draft a QB early. On the other hand, you find gems that were not drafted, like Kurt Warner Tony Romo or later round picks... David Garrard 4th round Drew Brees 2nd round Tom Brady 6th round Heck even greats like Joe Montana were drafted in the third round. Sometimes, it is a matter of luck. Drafting a QB in the first round does not always equal greatness.
Heard on NFL sirius about the possibility of trading for Derek Anderson from the Browns. Hes only contracted to make 5 miilion this year which isn't chump money but wouldn't break the bank. Think Tannebaum will give his boy Mangenious a call?
What a bunch of bull. You only believe this crap beacuse it what you want to hear. They have invested time and money in him, he's been in the same system for 4 years so he will be given a chance to win the job against Ratliff and a veteran they bring in. We shall see and who really knows, but you sound like a fool saying he is gone after Favre retired, it would have made sense saying he is gone if Favre stayed. HELLO!!!!
Hopefully not. We have 3 talented young QB's on the roster that we've been grooming with experience (3 years, 2 years, 1 year) in the system. The time is now to find out which one of them is going to step up. I'm excited to see who it is. Why bring in some young guy who has shown very inconsistent play to learn the system? It's not like Anderson is some super talent or anything.
I'm surprised so many are having faith in Clemens... I think he should get a shot at the job, I just don't know how you can believe he's going to be worth a nickel as our main guy. He hasn't shown much at all up to this point. I was kinda hopeful he would have had some growth after the resting from the losing season he had some starts in... we'll see though. It's now or never for this kid. Sink or swim.
I'm with you on that. But with the Browns looking to trade him and the relationship bet Mangini and Tannenbaum you know they gonna think about it.
First of all. Warner and Romo were picked by much more intelligent football guys than we have. The Jets do not find players like that because we do not have a front office in place that is as knowledgable as Dick Vermeil or Bill Parcells. Tom Brady played for Michigan. Based on that alone Brady should have gone higher. Drew Brees was 2nd rd but was a Heismann candidate. Yeah you can find a gem in the later rds, but often times than not, you will find a bust. Yes there is a 50% bust rate in the first rd, but it gets a whole lot worse after rd 1 as well.
You are the smaller man. You lost any chance of being the bigger man with your stupid comments about Canada. Moving beyond character issues to purely football issues, anyone who thinks KC isn't a mobile QB in this league has never watched him play and is just trying to bluff his way through a debate.
I'm having trouble with the all-in approach to QB development. With a team that's not ready for a SB appearance, what'd the diff if it takes 3 or 4 weeks to determine which one of your guys has the most talent and potential to be your QB? Using your line of logic, either you draft a franchise guy or you gamble the entire year on a project. I don't agree with that at all. I believe in the best player at any position plays. That includes QB. It took more than one season to get the Jets where they are today at the QB position. They passed on Cutler. They passed on Flacco. They really haven't made a play on any franchise QB since Pennington. Now, its time for the FO to validate their decision making by forcing their QB DP's to battle it out for the job and you want to hand the job to one of them? You're limiting yourself to a 50/50 chance of success with that methodology. We have the time to groom what's on our roster and that's including other positions as well. Why not take it instead of signing another has-been just to placate a impatient fan-base?
