When he played, he was rated the worst QB in the league. To me, that means he is the worst. I think he is very hesitant during games and has very slow reflexes, very slow to react. I don't think that is going to change. I think the NFL is way too fast for him. Many QBs cannot handle the speed difference between college and the NFL. He is a shining example of that. That's why I say he will not be a Jet at the beginning of the season, and he will not be in the NFL. The Jets will keep Ratliff, who they are high on, they will draft high, and they may pick up a mediocre veteran. But mark my words, Clemens is finished.
I stopped reading after that. I'm not saying Clemens is the messiah.....but here are the facts. He played with a piece of swiss cheese for an oline in 2007....so right there, he wasn't surrounded with enough talent to succeed. Um, the guy can throw with some zip and he's mobile...so comparing him to Pennington is assinine at best. Like I said in an earlier post....Clemens DID show some signs of regression last year in TC....but to say he "looks bad" and "he isn't an NFL QB" is quite premature. If he continues to make some of those bad decisions he did in TC...in the upcoming season...then I might buy what you're selling. But until that happens...Clemens deserves his shot.
Let's not forget that up until this point, this whole Favre retiring thing is still unofficial, and even after it is made official the situation could change another 64 times before the pre-season so all we can do right now is wait and see.
so...QB rating is basically your "litmus test" in deciding what QB's are good or bad. You just lost your credability.
That's funny that what most of NY salid about Eli Manning before the 2008 season. Give Clemens a chance. The NYJ will be a team much like the Ravens. Win with Defense, strong Special teams and a "serviceable" offense.
What's your point? The press conference took place last year too and we all know how that turned out.
I know he has more zip and more mobility, but I've also seen a guy who has a look at times like a deer in headlights. His decision making is too slow. As my reference between him and Pennington is there appearance of non-athletic ability. There is nothing special about either of them.
Hold on Todd...hold it right there, buddy. Clemens QBrating was the "worst" of the bunch in 2007......we need to cut him asap.
I think I said a little more than just the QB rating. But when a QB has the worst rating, no that is not good
gee..if i had the oline that Clemens had in 2007....I wouldn't even show up to the field. Give the guy a break! If he shows the same tendencies behind our current Oline...then you have a point....but until then, it's moot.
And He Isn't There Anymore Either I don't know if Favre had a press conference last season. You could be right, but I think there was more talk of Green Bay not making any overtures toward Favre. He felt like he wasn't wanted.
Behind possibly the worst offensive line in football that year. That is not the way you have a QB learn the game. Look how fast and nicely Maning progressed behind the Giants offensive line that many say is in the top 5 in the NFL. Put the tools around him and Clemens will be a winner.
Pennington NEVER had the ability to put any zip on the ball especially after his 2 surgeries. In terms of mobility, Pennington's 40 time was 4.78 and Clemens' was 4.91 so I'm not really sure what you're trying to say?
Id like to see what Kellen looks like with some protection. It?s either a short term veteran stand in, while other teams are grooming their future quarter backs. We on the other hand have the tested and failed against the never been tested. Same old shit different decade.
Can't give him a break. I want to win and anything else is BS. I don't turn on my TV every Sunday because of fairness. I turn on that TV to see my team win.
Bang on, bro. Some of the posters in this thread fail to realize the 2007 oline situation was a heavy factor in how Clemens played.
Favre's retirement press conference last year was probably the biggest story of the 2008 NFL offseason. How did you miss it? The video of it is on YouTube if you ever care to take a look at it.
