I want to thank this forum for making my choice easier. Times are tough right now, with layoffs continuing by the thousands daily, and no end in sight. I couldn't live with myself knowing I had $10-15k locked up with the freaking Jets in a time when/if I needed it. Being a season ticket holder for years, and even going with my Dad in the Shea days, I know the agonony of being a fan. This isn't an investment...this is a tariff. We have all been there trying to sell an xtra ticket or two over the years, and it's painful. And the preseason is even worse. I thought about it this way yesterday...If you buy two PSL's for $5k each, that's a $10k payment. If you take $10k and spread it over a 30 year period, thats and xtra $17 a ticket you're paying over face to sit in that seat per game. So if your ticket says $120, you're actually paying $137 for it. I'm sure I'll get some heat for a "stupid analysis"...Just another way to think of this "toll" we are now paying. I will be ready and waiting for that first guy to take a $600 bath on his $700 face tickets when it's a cold day. Or half price for an upper decker in the rain, to try and catch a glimpse of the field from 5,300 feet back. I don't think saying no to the PSL in these times makes us any less of a fan...it makes us a smarter person. I think I can easily say goodbye to the Jets...and hello to Ebay.
Yes U R correct they told us after my son refused all there offers that the UD seat allocation will be started for those with the most senior date that being 1977 that have seats on the 50 yd line of the LD then using there words "fanning" out from there thru the stadium to the mezz deck & then to those 1977 people who already have UD seats. Then the process will begin for 78then 79 & so on & so forth. They also told us there are "about" 3,000 accounts which have a 1977 seniority year attachhed to them. They did not tell us how many seats those "3,000" accounts account for. Based on what they told me it appears my 1st row UD sideline seats are in jeopardy.
WOW. Good post, but quite sad because I think you've nailed it. The Jets have forced this on many, many loyal ticketholders. You're even going out of your way to justify it and give the Jets the benefit of the doubt.... spreading the PSL out over 30 years. That's really quite a stretch by any "investment" or depreciation standards. But look at the $10,000 another way if you want to spread it out over 30 years. If you were to take that $10,000 right now, today, and mail it into Vanguard and have them deposit it into their S&P 500, here's what would happen to it over 30 years... Historical averages are that the stock market has increased approximately 10% per year, that's an add on. At that rate, your money will double in 7.5 years. At the end of 15 years, it has quadrupled. And naturally, at the end of 30 years, the money has grown 8 times. The $10,000 invested today would become $80,000 by then. That's an average return. Of course, people will say, "The stock market? Are you crazy? Look what has happened? No Way!" But the truth is, there has probably never been a better time than right now, with the market at these dismal levels. The prospect remains that your money could grow at a significantly greater return than a 10% average from here forward, simply because the market is so low now and it's such a good time to get it in. So, it's quite possible (even very likely) that the $10,000 becomes worth much more than the projected $80,000, probably more like $100,000+. A nice way to help your grandchildren with college expenses. Now, it will be argued that the $10,000 PSL will be worth more 30 years from now and you can then "sell" your investment to somebody else. Oh yeah? How about 30 years from now the "old" stadium needs replacement (same arguments)... it's "outdated," the rest rooms are yukky, there's no dome, the food concessions stink... etc. So it's possible that the $10,000 is completely gone. Let's see... Zero versus $100,000. Which one was the better "investment?" No comparison... just looking at this from strictly an investment position. The fact that you are willing to depreciate the PSLs over 30 years speaks volumes for you as a Jets fan because you are definitely giving this thing every chance to "pay for itself." Truth is, with this kind of a diminishing return on investment, the depreciation factor should be much less than half, or 10 years, for example. Now you need to tack on an additional $50-$60 per ticket, realistically, to recoup your "investment." It just doesn't work, unfortunately. That's why I've been saying all along that this is either a fool's game or one for very wealthy individuals or profitable corporations looking for the tax write-off from their T&E account. It can't be justified by the current average Mom and Pop ticketholder no matter how hard we try.
ok 1 detail i keep forgetting to inform you guys that the tour guide kept saying about the parking lots, the current situation there is only 16 lanes in and out of the complex. there will be 48 in the new complex. hooray. people can still leave early without the traffic excuse.
i considered the front row of the mezz endzone b/c the ticket is only $120 and the PSL is $4000 but x that by 2 or even 4 and i just find it redickerous.
I certainly hope this improves things, but I know enough about commercial parking areas to know that it will probably be more constrictive. But how is that possible? 48 new exit lanes instead of the current 16? Because it's not the lanes that's the problem, it's the amount of curbing and "green area." They design large parking lots now for safety, especially one that feeds onto major roads like Rte 3 or 17. Truth be known, the current parking lot at the Meadowlands is unsafe because it allows people to drive diagonally and every which way to get out. Take a good look at some of these newer, larger parking areas like a WalMart complex or whatever. The flow is quite controlled, almost to the point of aggrevation, in getting out to the actually "exit lane." It's not the exit lane that's the problem, it's getting to it. If your car is buried deep into this maze, you have a choice of either standing in bumper-to-bumper traffic just to get to the exit lane or you can illegally hop over curbs... those are your two choices. I'm not saying they're not going to follow through on these newer lanes, but I am sure that the parking lots will have to adhere to the newer standards of curbing and "orderly" traffic flow, which also translates into "restrictive" traffic flow. I don't expect exits from the parking areas to be any better, time-wise, than they were before. Safer, yes, but perhaps more time consuming. Just being cynical now, but why shouldn't I be? This whole experience has left me with no choice no but to not believe a fucking word I hear about any of this.
If your original post has accomplished nothing else, it's given us a real good idea of how set back the seating is. It's still unbelievable to me that they'd even approve such a plan. What a horrible waste of stadium space. In fact, it brings back memories of Shea.... spread out so far you needed binoculars. Seems like we're going backwards in time... Thanks for posting the pics, 17a. Really helping a lot of people decide.
the first set of pics from the mezz section 241/242, you really cany gauge the distance to the field b/c they hadnt installed the lower level seats yet. the yellow crane starts the field.
Not too bad from the Mezz, but I take it you're probably standing in Row 1. The Mezz always did have the best overall views IMO, but this view is like worse even than the LAST row of the old Mezz. Dammit.... I'm sure gonna miss that "old" stadium.
Okay, now, in that photo... looking at the Mezz on the other side of the field.... Can somebody please tell me why you couldn't have brought that whole shelf forward, boxes and all? You'd now cover the Lower with that shelf too. Same thing with the Upper. Then everyone in the stadium would have a better look, even the corporate boxes. It just makes no fucking sense to me whatsoever. Somebody ought to lose their job over this big time. What were the owners thinking when they approved this plan? Were they even paying attention? If I owned the jets or Giants I would have been like, "Dude... you really need to go back to the drawing board. These seats are way too far from the action. If you can't stack the decks better than that, get me somebody who can." Just ridiculous.
You can't miss it. Largest stadium you'll ever see with the worst views you'll ever have seen, besides maybe Shea.... maybe.
So what you are saying is seniority within a year will be based on where you sit, not the exact date your purchased the seats. That means someone in 1981 who sits in the LD will get to pick upper deck seats before me who has sat in the UD for 28 fucking years. SOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Year then location 1977 lower levels beats 1978 upper level ticket holder for better upper deck seats. Sorta like a big game of rock scissor papper
Correct me if I'm wrong (attempting to clear this up), but this is another way of explaining Year, then Location: 1978 will never beat out 1977 under any circumstances. If a 1977 comes along and has Mezz, then he beats out another 1977 (with exact same date) who has Lower. All else was equal (date-wise), so 1977 Mezz wins by virtue of better location. Then on to 1978. If the join date is exactly similar, who has the best seats, and so on. Again, Year then Location. Under no circumstances will location override year, i.e., no one from 1980 gets ahead of anyone from 1979, regardless of where their seats are.
I'm not sure location enters into it now, after reading my initial email. it is kinda ugly that you can barely make out people from the mezz. trucks are pretty clear but people are tough to make out great work once again this ended up being one of my favorite threads in a long time. and it had its moments of humor too! i really enjoy buildings being built, however i dont enjoy this one as much as others as the layout does appear screwed and the fans are taking it in the rear from every direction. i could see all those things you spoke about 227 i think it was happening. it would be a shame but i could see them happening.
