Lowrey has only 1 season under his belt. Not to mention being coached by a staff that has seen a few players regress from 1 year to the next. I can't help but feel that not only Lowrey, but the defense as a whole will improve with the new staff, and the schemes they will impliment.
If it's true that Ryans defense includes a lot of man coverage I don't think Lowery is going to cut is as a corner in this scheme. I wouldn't mind seeing what he can do at safety, but I've been less than impressed with his corner skills.
I like Lowery alot, he seemed to have veryy good technique last year. You dont have to be fast if youre constantly in the right spot. I like the idea of drafting a CB/S tweener, similar to Lowery. So that they could interchange to whatever the coaching staff liked more. Examples like Rashad Johnson and Sean Smith.
I think Lowery is going to be a very good nickel back that can play some safety in certain situations, but is best served as a role player.
Wow...thats crazy. Lowry is 5'11 200lbs. It def. makes you realize how big all these athletes are. I would have guessed he was around 5'8 or 5'9. Maybe he is safety material??
It also makes you question the accuracy of the listings. A lot of the smallest guys on the team are listed as 2 inches taller than they really are. I'm 5'11 and I got Dwight Lowery's autograph at training camp at Hofstra last summer and unless he grew 2 inches since August he's not quite 5'11...
I don't know much about Ahmad Carroll. But I seem to remember all of the transplanted GB fans on the board saying he did nothing at CB, but committ tons of PI penalties. I'd be scared to have him as our starting corner.
Maybe keep him as an option for blitzing.. maybe. Elam can't cover worth a damn and he gets lost in the open field.
im gonna be all for what ryan decides to do with the guys on defense. i had this mindset when mangini came in and it turned out to be wrong. hopefully rex is a bit more hands on with the defense.
Leave him where he was. He did a good job as far as I'm concerned Passes are going to get completed How about some pressure on the QB
I've seen a ton of people on this board go crazy for Jim Leonhard. He's 5'8" 186. Having said that, why the hell are we going to advocate a switch after a single season in the NFL, and in a Bob Sutton "all day to throw" defense? If Ryan decides to make the swap, I won't cry foul, but I don't find it necessary at this point.
I don't think he's a bad nickle CB. He'll turn out to be another Ray Mickens. Probably be with the Jets for awhile and serve his purpose as a 3rd or 4th corner on passing downs.
