I was thinking that since Lowery was a playmaker this season as much as he got burned due to his rookie stature, why not covert him to safety??

5 forced fumbles to me indicates if he had to drop in the box because his assignment is the RB and not a WR, he may be able do FF on running plays as well as passing plays... he is a good tackler, and has safety speed more than corner speed.

He is a true student of the game. Watching film with Rhodes and Revis. With him and Rhodes being in the backfield, they could wreak havoc. Rhodes would have a safety he could trust as well.

You can't teach speed and Lowery is slow. I'd also support a move to safety. Him being a smart guy, and from what we saw a decent tackler would indicate he could fit the role. I just don't want to see him in man coverage by himself anymore, he got toasted all year.

i know what your referring too, i saw him near the second half of the season get rotated into safety near red zone situations or when the opponent was in their own territory.

teams threw jump balls his way alot and he constantly seemed to be just inches away from making a play and got schooled.

I understand the frame of thought, a CB with good instincts who can tackle lacking elite speed. same logic that has alot of upper tier CB's moving to safety when they get older.

I just dunno though, hes very avg in size for a corner as is, so im on the fence. I know rex ryan usually asks his Corners to keep the play infront of them or flush the reciever to the middle of the field or out to the safeties. so he might actually be decent at corner if Rex can coach him up right.

but for that theory to make sense wed need better coverage from our LBers and Kerry Rhodes to be used better.

I feel that Lowery can turn out to be a good cornerback. He has very good instincts. I would expect him to continue to improve each year as he gets more experienced in the pro game.

Lowry is as big as Reed and only an inch shorter than Elam. I prefer a BIGGER Safety than that but the Jets have small safeties except for Rhodes. Lowry could be a better safety than CB.

    Lowry 5'11" / 201 lbs
    Rhodes 6'3" / 220
    Smith 6'1" / 209
    Reed 5'11" / 202
    Elam 6'0" / 207

I think with the right coaching, Poteat or Carroll could be a solid CB.

I thought Lowery played well last year we just asked him to cover guys forever. Lets see what he can do at CB with a normal pass rush and a year under his belt. He doesn't have great speed but I think he can be a solid #2 CB.

Lowery is not slow..he is just not a burner..he had a pulled hamstring on combine day so his numbers are a little lower.

I could see Lowery playing some safety. He was great at providing run support this year. I remember him making some great tackles on screen passes and other plays to the outside where he was one on one with the ball carrier. And he definitely has the ball skills. If we are playing a blitzing, aggressive defense this year we are going to need corners who can play man coverage. Since Lowery showed this year he gets burned when he plays man, safety might be his best bet to see the field.

he got burned bacause he was asked to cover for 5-6 seconds and was picked on because of revis on the other side.i see lowery as a good 2nd or great nickel we just have to cut the coverage time down to 3-4 seconds.when we hitting the qb early in the season everyone was on his jock.give him one more year and people will be buying his jersey book it

I would love it if you're right. If he's got it in him, Rex will find it.

Oooof, that's a fail on that quote.

"If you want me to cook the dinner, you have to let me buy the groceries," meaning he needs control over the draft and FA as a head coach.

Maybe that's why you only used an apostrophe instead of quotes?
