So what are your thoughts on the lack of a review by the booth? Suppose that (as i believe) it was a forward pass, the personal foul gives Zona 15 yards putting them on Pitts 31. What about Santonio Holmes TD celebration? He used the ball as a prop, which is an automatic fifteen yard penalty. So add in the fifteen yards it puts Zona on the 16 yard line with 7 seconds or so to play. 7 seconds is enough for two plays. So not saying Zona would have scored, but I think things would have ended very differently had Zona been put where they were supposed to be with 7 seconds to go.
Was I just imagining that the play was reviewed upstairs and the ruling on the field was confirmed? I've heard tons of people crying about how the play wasn't reviewed.
They should have ran the ball in right before the end of the 1st half. That's the play i keep coming back to.
It wasn't booth reviewed but they looked at it upstairs and determined there was no need. I guess since it was the last play of the game they could've gone through the charade of a booth review even though it was clearly a fumble to stop all the post game whining. But they made the right call.
It was a fumble. The ball was loose in his palm and he flung it forward. He did not have a grip on it.
I'm with you on both points. My impression was that there was a booth review, but I admit that if so it happened pretty quickly. I absolutely thought that it was the right call, as it seemed to me that the ball was not in his hand any more (but rather resting on his forearm) when his arm went forward. I do agree about Holmes' celebration, by the way, and said so at the time at the party I attended. That was a very big deal.
This is the Super Bowl Review the dam play... Especially on the Last Play of the game even if there wasnt nothing there... If thats the case get rid of the dam instant replay then.. It makes no sense of all the bad calls there were or should I say no calls.. Arizona Got cheated out of alot of plays... How on Earth do you get a call for running into the Holder??? Fuck the holder if you want to protect everybody on the field then do so... If the holder is holding the ball and the defender is close to him hit his ass everytime... Its call roughing the Kicker not roughing the holder... Then they were protecting bum ass Ben the whole game shit it takes a shit load of running force to tackle that guy he is too big to just come with a lame tackle.. the head ref shouldnt be allowed to ref anymore superbowls... Let the players decide the out come of the game...
That is my feeling as well. The roughing the holder call was about as assanine as the "Tuck Rule" which I still have never seen get called again except for that one night in Cheatsboro. The roughing call on Dansby was garbage too, they essentially handed the Steelers 30 yards. Not to say the Steelers wouldn't have kicked the FG anyway but the difference in the clock between the roughing the holder call and the Steelers FG (the 2nd time) could have made a major difference to the Cards. The James Harrison roughing call was a joke too. It's pretty clear he was doing it before the ball changed possesion and the Cards should have gotten the ball back, not the Steelers at the 1 yard line. All these calls sucked but it doesn't change the fact that if the Cards make 1 stop they win the game. They were able to get pressure on Ben all night but when he scrambled they were unable to make a play. They tackle him on the play after the 2nd Fitz TD after the hold and IMO the game is over but they didn't and the rest is history. The officiating was terrible but in no way did they steal a Super Bowl from the Cardinals the way they did to Seattle a few years ago.
That info was only given out by the head of referees long after the game was over so who knows what they did. Any other game of the year, forget that it was the SB, the game would have been stopped and the play reviewed. That's why it is in their hands in the final 2 minutes so there is no question it will be reviewed. You can bet if AZ had any timeouts left and if they were allowed to they would have thrown the flag. That's the point here.
While I agree Zona got ripped on a million penalties that were pretty ticky-tac, and some bullshit calls, Pitt also got away with a gazillion penalties. I mean on the plays ben is running around in the pocket doing circles looking, looking, looking looking, and looking some more, there is no holding ever? Seriously? Then there was twice Ben should have gotten intentional grounding, but got away with it. That said that hold in the endzone was pretty ticky-tack, but for all the shit Zona got, i figured that was a make-up call if anything. I think it should have been reviewed, and in all reality the no-call on Holmes celebration was bull shit. Also I saw the replay a million times, it looked very much like warner was forcing the ball threw the defender and got it flung forward, as he was being tackled. but really, as others said, regardless of your thoughts on it, the officials only saw it once, at live speed, which in my eyes was rediculously inconclusive on the first look. So it is the SUPERBOWL, go take a look, even if you have no intention of changing it, charade it out for the fans.
The celebration rules are what is bullshit. I thought the refs were pretty bad all game long but I give them credit for not throwing a flag in that situation. Does anyone really think that throwing the ball up in the air is worth a 15 yard penalty? To me the sack dances/celebrations after catching a 10 yard pass are more annoying and disrupting to the game than anything done after a TD. Hopefully this rule gets changed.
That's my thought as well, I hate the celebration rule. It's such a waste of a penalty. The problem I have with the rule and why it should be changed is that it's only thrown in some cases and yet in others it isn't. If the rule says there should have been a 15 yard penalty for throwing the ball in the air it should be enforced whether you or I agree. The problem is in a another game with another set of officials it may have been thrown. If the league is going to babysit these idiots and take even more judgement calls away such as a force out and a 5 yard vs a 15 yard facemask then they need to be enforcing rules that are concrete and that's pretty concrete.
Anybody remember the online petition Pats fans started last year to protest alleged clock irregularities? That created some funny stuff.
