Interesting article in a Cleveland Paper about Mangini. Chek out the comments by Browns fans at the bottom.......they just don't know the frustration they are in for. http://www.cleveland.com/brownsbeat/index.ssf/2009/01/nfl_beat_writers_share_tales_o.html
Hahahaha, people are ripping the writer about things like it not being a bad thing that the coach refuses to speak to the media. Okay guys. Give it a year.
Mangini really needs to go be a coordinator for a few years and really focus on just having a good defense. He obviously is not a good communicator and lacks leadership skills.
It's all bullshit. If you win nobody cares, look at Belichick. If you have a bad year, or a bad month in Mangini's case, suddenly it's a problem. When we were 8-3 Mangini's press communication was no problem, until Favre started throwing the ball all over the lot.
When KC hired Herm I was in total shock.. To me the guy was CLUELESS and 100% reliant on the coaches and people around him... Mangini is at least Football Book smart... The rest may or may not come- I really think it's just tweaks in relaying the message to the team and players - Listen to the Revis interview and Westhoff basically said the same thing - the guy eats and breathes football and knows his shit - It's getting everyone on board he needs to improve on - that can be done... I've heard many football people say Mangini has "The Plan", it's just getting it out there and getting comfortable and more of a personality. I don't feel for these fans - Mangini has a shot... Herm, I was willing to bet my house, had no shot in hell.
Herm played in the NFL, worked his way up from an undrafted free agent. I always thought that gave him an edge in relating to any player, a star or a guy who just showed up to camp. He got a lot out of the guys in terms of effort, he was just clueless about offense and game management. Chad Pennington made him look a lot smarter than he was in that regard.
Brady Quinn's right index fracture has just been changed to: injury to one of the 20 digits comprising his hands and feet.
i remember alot of posts on here after manginis first year where everyone was saying they dont want him to talk blah blah give away stuff. and while i agree with that mangini took it to a whole new level. to the point that it was absurd and made him seem paranoid of everything and everyone around him. they will figure it out though. and i dont think its going to be good when they do
Poor Mangini. I love his attention to detail, his focus and his intelligence, but those Cleveland people (and my GOD there were a lot of them commenting on the piece) just don't get it. It's not the specific things he does, it's tha the doesn't realize that EVERY TEAM needs a leader, a face to the franchise, a TOm Brady for every Bill Belichick, that the team can rally behind. They can't rally behind him because he is missing the Human Element. I hope he finds it, I sincerely do think highly of him.
Actually, it is no different than what Belichick has done since he went to NE. Maybe even less and everyone learned it from Parcells who didn't start with that crap until AFTER he won his first or second SB, I can't remember which.
Who does he think he is he doesn't talk to the media. He's a position coach who lacks the ability to speak on a givin bases and his in game coaching has been not so good. That being said i think he will be a good coach but not right now.
