Yup, $550k is the much needed money we need to sign someone for a league minimum. Thats what we'll be saving off his arse...I would take him for one last yr and tell him...this is ur contract yr...else you're out. Kick him out anyways...

um negative. if im not mistaken, he has contract performance incentives, i do not know what it states, but he did have 5.5 sacks.

his contract is one of the highest versus the cap on the team, you cannot look at one year and say 550k is nothing, when we have paid him a deal for five years worth a total of $25 mil with $9 mil guaranteed.

True, but you need ot have some type of leverage to get a player to restructure. What do we have currently on Faneca or Woody that gives us any? We have no back-up to pressure them for thier job. The only way we get them to take less is by offering longer deals or more guarenteed money which I don;t see us doing.

Maybe after the draft that could change but I doubt we get either of them to do squat on thier contracts this season.

I came to argue punters, because I like T.J. Conley from Idaho. 47.4 yards per punt. It's insane. He's got by far, the most powerful leg in college football.

I like Jagodzinksi but I think he's looking for an OC job. It's a big let-down to go from college head coach to QB coach. And I don't know if Baltimore would let another coach come here. Even though that would be great for the Jets.

I'd re-sign Barton for depth if he would take a reasonable contract. You can never have too much talent at LB. I'd keep Bryan Thomas for the same reason. And hire LB Bart Scott, URFA from the Ravens. He will know what Ryan wants to do on D.

Baker, with his big mouth, just needs to be cut. And Coles has a guaranteed contract. Ellis had 8 sacks last year. Faneca was All-Pro. These guys aren't going to restructure.

Forget David Carr. The guy is toast.

I like Huber out of Cincy much better. Huber's stats are just below Conley's (2008, not 2007), but we are talking net yards, not actual hangtime and yards. Conley had a beter 2008, but Huber was much better in 2007. Their body of work isn't much different, I guess who you're more comfortable with. I believe Huber is going to be a solid NFL punter.

Oh, no doubt they both will, and if I remember correctly, Huber is a finalist for the Ray Guy award while Conley isn't, so that's gotta say something.

I do believe, however, that punters get better with age as they hone their technique, so you want to get the strongest leg you can while they're young and hold onto them as they develop.

I wouldn't mind giving Carr a chance considering the other options, but Ratliff should be #2.

Also I wouldn't ming Anderson as a pickup.

Conley punted indoors for half of his season - the Idaho Vandals play in a dome. His inflated average makes his leg seem much more powerful than it is.

The lack of wind for 50% of his season sure helps...to be honest with you, I think it's complete garbage that he was named to some All-American teams. There should be an asterisk next to punts that are indoors.

I don't like the first round pick, the offseason moves look great...when it comes to the draft, just the first round pick bothers me, and p.j. hill, who is the laziest most inconsistent running back. Another wide receiver i really like in the second round (because i don't think britt will be available) is nicks from North Carolina. Since when do we have 2 2nd round picks? Vilma hasn't resigned before free agency, and most likely won't. I'd much rather go CB/MLB in the first round.

appreciate the work you put it in though for sure

I would love to have Carr. I think the guy can play. I think spending a year with Giants, sitting behind Eli, and learning how to win, will make him a better QB.

Believe me man, I'm his biggest fan on this board - he's shell-shocked from the beating he took in Houston.

I hoped he'd be successful in Carolina, but it's obvious he'll never be the QB he was at Fresno State. He's just not the same guy.

    He's scared.

If Schott is so hot of a OC/QB mentor, I say let him pick our next QB whetther it be Carr, Anderson, Ratliff, whom ever and make a successful offensive sceme around their abilities and a solid running attack.

I don't want Schott blaming his scrappy scemes on the QB he is forces to use.

I just don't want a QB retread that will only be around for a season or two. I want a twenty something QB, no thirty or fourth something.

    I don't give a crap if he's a retread, I want Byron Leftwich.

Give him an offensive line, some halfway decent receivers, and a solid running game and he should have success.

He was set up to fail in Jacksonville.

Thread creator, I have to disagree on a few things..

    1. Carr will not be the QB for the Jets in 2009. The QB in 2009 with either be Favre, Clemens, the Rat, or the franchise guy taken in the draft. First and foremost, there is absolutely no point in having a guy you've signed for 1 year learn your offense, then in 2010, a completely different guy (because it's curtains for Clemens, and basically saying we're IFFY on Ratliff) has to learn the system all over again. So that's 2 years lost for that 1 year deal. You might as well have the guy taken in the draft learn the offense.

    2. Coles will be cut, he won't restructure.

    3. Nugent?

    4. If the Jets can't land Malcolm Jenkins at 17, they dump that pick for a 2nd and 3rd.

    5. The Bengals LB coach? The Bengals didn't have ANY LBs to coach last year. They were so F-ed up they were starting safeties at LB. Big deal? I don't want a guy who can't keep his players healthy coaching our LBs.

    6. Oh I forgot this one, Washington won't be a punt return man next year, Lowery will be on that detail.

    I 100% agree with:

    1. Locking up Leon on a long term deal.
    2. Taking Britt with the 1st second round pick.
    3. Shopping Thomas.
    4. Jagz as QB coach (but would he want the job)
    5. I like Jabari Greer.

I'm not here to sling mud...but I have to address this. You think Coles will be cut? He is owed $7 million whether he plays or not, so why in the name of god would we cut him? Why would we pay LC $7 million dollars to sit at home? His money is guaranteed. Somebody please explain to me how this makes ANY sense.
