The guy thinks that we are "set" at Nosetackle with Pouha and Mosely backing up Jenkins, and appears to believe that Coleman at DE should be a sack monster. Stopped reading the article at that point- not worth the bandwidth it presently occupies.
He actually states: So you stopped reading the article that you read wrong, and then Quack somehow agreed. Anyways, I agree that he was completely off with his nosetackle analysis, however I do not believe a backup nosetackle is as big an issue as the other five he listed. I also agree with the other poster that LB should be listed there, but I think OL depth is a SERIOUS issue on this team. Anyways Pettine will fix Gholston supposedly  My 5: 1. QB 2. DE 3. CB 4. OL 5. LB (6). WR (I do think we need a big WR, but with Clowney being healthy and the continued development of Keller I think we have bigger issues)
I didn't read anything wrong. Why so defensive? Is the author a friend? He's not trying to refute the alleged reasons as to why Mangini brought Coleman here. By him citing the coaches position, without trying to refute their reasoning in any way, he's agreeing in my eyes, especially when listing DE at #2 on his wish list. If you don't think that backup NT is a need, given Jenkins' decline at the midpoint of last season and the fact that there was no viable replacement, at which point the entire line and LB's suffered, I don't know what I can do to change your mind.
heres my 5..... 1. QB 2. QB 3. QB 4. QB 5. QB now i am not being funny here but its going to take at least 1/2 season for the defense to even resemble anything close to a raven-like performance. and maybe another full season to really nail it down with personnel and things. so what is the team going to do until then......?? gotta get the QB position solidified as well. jil
No, he wasn't brought to be a big time pass rusher, and 3-4 DE's do not "come off the edge". They also don't have contain responsibilities like some idiot has recently mentioned on this board. THAT IS THE OLB'S JOB. C.J. Mosley is a good backup DL, but probably could never hold NT for even a whole drive, much less any significant amount of time if Jenkins were injured. Pouha gets moved by one man, so you can't expect him to hold against two. Backup NT is a need. People who don't know the fucking scheme should stop talking about what players are supposed to do in that scheme. I'm sick and tired of all these morons claiming to know about football then blatantly spouting bullshit that doesn't make sense. Not sending a linebacker in a 3-4 is worse than dropping a DE into coverage from a 4-3 alignment, because the linemen in the 4-3 are more attuned to pass rushing than 3-4 linemen. OL depth is an issue as the Jets only have 2 backup OLinemen and they're both tackles. Linebacker need is purely inside - Spencer actually didn't do badly when he got a shot inside, but we are set at OLB, and people need to stop chiming in about drafting OLBs or getting FA OLBs when linebacker is listed as a need. It is INSIDE LINEBACKER. Inside linebacker is A DIFFERENT POSITION. At OLB there is Pace, Thomas, Gholston, Bowens, Trusnik, Murrell. At ILB, there is Harris, and Spencer. We didn't read the article wrong. He said: NO. That was never the belief by anyone who knows anything about football. I swear, I should just write a giant how-to on the 3-4 so people on this board stop getting simple shit wrong. DE with contain responsibilities? DE supposed to rush the passer? What the hell is wrong with these people?
Not a friend at all... I guess we just read it differently. I believe he was actually criticizing Mangini and Sutton on why they brought him in, and what they expected. Now that I'm reading it again, I can see how it can be taken differently. I think backup NT is a need, I never questioned that. I just think that we have bigger needs. You're completely right in stating how Jenkins' decline affected our entire defense, but imagine if we lost Faneca or Mangold to injury... do you not agree that would have a far more devasting effect on our team? Which is why I think OL backups would be a bigger need than a better backup NT, because we simply don't have any or enough (depending on position). Quack: Same goes to you, I guess we just read it differently. I'm not sure how me thinking he was explaining that Mangini and Sutton were wrong exhibited any lack of knowledge in how a 3-4 works. Oh well. Not a big deal. I was mainly trying to get any idea of what people think our top 5 priorities should be... and obviously you two think backup NT is up there.
Didn't Trusnik play ILB as a fill in after Harris was hurt in the Miami game? I thought he played very well and showed great speed. We need depth at that position and wouldn't be surprised to see Bart Scott in a Jet uni next year. We should draft Tyson Jackson, I love it when people say he didn't have enough sacks.
Finding a CB who can play man opposite Revis is probably the biggest need. Ryan's D requires this, and right now the Jets do not have that kind of player. They will need to get one. Upgrade at wideout would be #2.
