Fox sports radio's JT "the Brick" kept reporting and believing that Rex Ryan will do everything in his power to get some of his former Baltimore defensive players to the Jets including guys like Ray Lewis. ... That would be so kick ass....
It makes sense. Every player he's able to bring over can help coach the rest of the defense from a player's perspective about how things are done. Every coach we've ever had has done that to a degree.
Hmmm...all we would need would be 30 million or so of cap space instead of being 17 million over it as we are now.
It's about 10 million with the cap increase, and there are numerous ways to get cap room. With the cap set to expire soon, they can backload all new deals.
Actually I think we are 10 million oever the cap now. The cap is going up 7mil next year but we owe Farve 13 mil and we have to pay a first round pick. So we would have to shed some or restructure some contracts if we want to get any of the Baltiomore Free agents here. Something else to think about...If Farve retires we will probably try to get a FA QB. I think Mr. Ryan may have to make the most out of what he has, which means one hell of a coach up job for Vernon Gholston....
16.5 million using 123 million as what the new cap will be. Most people think that will be the number. So, even IF Favre doesn't come back and IF they re-do Rhodes and Pace's current deals it still wouldn't give them more then the will need to sign their rookies and maybe sign 1 or 2 low to midlevel FAs. http://www.nyjetscap.com/salary.html
Yeah, it should be a piece of cake to shed $47M in cap space. Isn't that what Tannambaum does best...ha.
Can we just cut our entire Defense except for Revis, Jenkins and Rhodes? Then we would have the cap space to sign all those guys. Yeah, I know. I oughta be GM.
I heard on the radio that the d players from Baltimore made a pact that they'd follow Rex where he went.
Code: Players that may/should get cut: Player Cap $M Savings Reason Favre 13.0 13 (not much choice due to cap) K Coleman 4.7 0.9 (89 gms, 8 sacks, highly overpaid - do not reneg.) D Barrett 4.6 3.7 (Cap casualty - did he play?) D Bowens 2.7 2.6 (Cap casualty - too much for an OK backup) C Baker 2.3 2.1 (Hate to see him go but a cap casualty) J Dearth 0.9 0.9 (can't we draft an LS in 6th??) Total Savings $23.2 Millions Code: Renegotiate to new cap figures for 09: Player Current New Savings Cap Cap mil mil mil C Pace 11.8 9.0 2.8 K Rhodes 10.6 8.0 2.6 S Ellis 6.9 5.5 1.4 Moore (bonus+) 5.8 3.8 2.0 Total Cap Savings $8.8 millions Grand total of $32 millions in savings. I thought we were about $10 mil over? With these changes, we'd have $22mils in cap space to sign 3 solid players plus a $3mil vet QB.
due to our cap space we will be getting probably 1 allstar raven. it's between Ray Lewis, T-sizzle(i love that name), and Bart Scott. I want Bart Scott very badly, he's a beast and still young, but that might want the ravens to sign him back. Suggs aint a bad choice, but he's worth way too much imo and we have VG which is what suggs was, and anyway he's getting resigned by the Ravens defiantly. Ray Lewis though would be a great acquisition. So much leadership, hard hitter, one of the best at the position, but he is old and worth waaaaaaaaaaay too much for his age, and probably going to Dallas. What will happen is we will probably get Bart scott and have David Harris and Bart Scott as the ILB(very sick). Then probably get leonhard for SS and then Rhodes can become the 06-07 rhodes. Then we will probably end up getting either Mcallister or Ivy(depending whos cheaper) because we need some sort of CB to compliment Revis. This is what I BELIEVE will happen. Just because it sounds the most realistic.
It is not safe to assume Favre will not be back. And remember many who want Favre gone also think the Jets will need to draft a Qb high in the draft. Then there remain holes at CB, safety, wideout, passrushing LB, DL... There are, however, clearly people who could be cut with little adverse impact at all.
