either you can play or you cant. Rhodes is starting to get bashed by our own fans and i think its more of a reality check as to why his play declined last yr.

and he was speaking in regards to the ravens system. he didnt say, "geez eric smith and abram elam, get em off the team"

or it couldve been a shot at the coaching staff.

I just think he would need to choose his words more carefully. Shouldn't be a .. well maybe he meant this.. or maybe he meant this... it should be clear what he said.

We'll see, certainly with Ryan as the coach now and at least Leohnard coming over to fill the other safety spot there should be no more excuses for Rhodes.

Reading a little too much into this one I would say.

He said he wished the COACHES trusted the guy next to him.

What he is saying is the previous staff didn't trust the other safties in other responsiblities, like being the deep cover guy, so Rhodes was left back their, he is saying trust Elam or Smith to their job and let me make some plays.

I don't know about that.. look at this sentence:

"Ed Reed is a special player, but it's the way he's used," Rhodes said. "He has a guy next to him he can trust, so he can take chances and freelance."

To me its saying that Ed has a guy next to him that HE can trust... I DON'T have a guy next to me that I can trust..

I don't see it being that way, but who cares, one little quote....

it is going to be a LONG offseason around here if this is what we are reduced to.

Fair enough. I mean hopefully Elam and/or E. Smith will just be backups next year and we bring in someone that can actually do everything they need to do.

LOL, good to hear it from the horse's mouth. Our secondary blows chunks. After Rhodes and Revis, there's no one there.

Elam and Smith were already in the gutter, not too far from under the bus eh?

Retain Elam as a reserve, release Smith, acquire a safety who can cover his assignment, please.

I think Elam is pretty crappy, but he won us two games last year. Rhodes won us zero. I like Rhodes potential and maybe he was misused. Maybe he's overrated. I guess we'll find out this year.

thats what you base their talent on??

Your whole post makes no sense, and you have thrown 06 and 07 out the window apparently.

In that case, bring back Jon McGraw.

How ironic. People complain when players refuse to talk or aren't allowed to. Rhodes knows damn well that the reason he doesn't have the opportunities to make game changing plays is because he had no SS partner he can trust... or at least one that the coaches trust enough to turn Rhodes loose and be the pro bowl caliber safety he used to be.

If any fan with a clue doesn't understand this, they are clueless. Great players want to make great plays. Elam and Smith are nice backups, not starters. So, Rhodes sees a chance to say something that might influence a new coach to take a harder look at who plays S with Rhodes, and he's throwing guys under the bus.

Rhodes is the D leader on this team. When he talks, I listen. He's right. He didn't call anyone player out, but his message is clear. Get me a partner I can trust and watch me make plays. Rhodes was forced into being an insurance policy for Lowery, or Poteat, or Law and still had to cover for Elam/Smith. Good for Rhodes. He knows he has pro bowl talent, he just wants the opportunity to be just that.

Do we have to have the phrase "throw under the bus" in every thread title?

Doesn't seem like he is criticizing his teammates as much as the coaching staff, but I guess people can look at that statement in any number of ways.

Ed Reed gets to play like he does because the front 7 are blitzing on almost every down. Without all that pressure he wouldn't be able to do any of the things he does now.

I think we should add that the bums Rhodes is referring to are not limited to Smith, Elam and Coleman. Barrett is now technically also a safety, and still sucking big time. And Poteat was not getting it done. Poteat brings to mind I hope Ryan ends this ridiculous practice of hiring Patsie castoffs.
