......we sign some of those Ravens defensive free agents such as...Suggs?, Bart Scott? Ray Lewis? i think there are some more too.

or, we can just keep the superstars we have Eric Smith, Bryan thomas, and Vernon Gholston.

Bart Scott at the right price is a possibility, but I don't think we can afford Suggs with all that is invested at that position and I think Ray Lewis is a Raven for life.

im not so sure about ray lewis being a raven for life. if thats the case y wouldnt he be resigned already? i think they think no1 will want to sign him for big $$ so he'll come back to the ravens for cheap but if he was made a good offer somewhere else (especially with a defensive scheme he will likely be familiar with) he may take that offer instead

we could use a player with his intensity and leadership

I have been thinking about this for awhile, I actually posted something like on this 1/14/09...

I'm sure he would like 1 or 2 current players to come that know him and his systems..That know him as a coach to talk to the current Jets about him as a person and coach..Kind of like Bellichek did with Carl Banks when he went to Cleveland...

QB Kyle Boller UFA 6 years exp. 6-3/220 California
C Jason Brown UFA years exp. 6-3/320 North Carolina
DE Dwan Edwards UFA 5 years exp. 6-3/315 Oregon State
CB Corey Ivy UFA 8 years exp. 5-9/188 Oklahoma
P Sam Koch UFA 3 years exp. 5-11/225 Nebraska
S Dawan Landry RFA 3 years exp. 6-1/220 Georgia Tech
S Jim Leonhard UFA 4 years exp. 5-8/185 Wisconsin
MLB Ray Lewis UFA 13 years exp. 6-1/245 Miami (FL)
FB Lorenzo Neal UFA 15 years exp. 5-11/255 Fresno State
OLB Bart Scott UFA 7 years exp. 6-2/240 Southern Illinois
K Matt Stover UFA 19 years exp. 5-11/178 Louisiana Tech
DE Terrell Suggs UFA 6 years exp. 6-3/260 Arizona State
TE Daniel Wilcox UFA 7 years exp. 6-1/245 Appalachian State
WR Demetrius Williams RFA 3 years exp. 6-2/198 Oregon

Quite a few good secondary players and our secondary needs big time help, Ivy is a above average player IMO, Landry is ok and Leonhard has really stepped it up this year, was all over the field last 2 games...

Could see Tanny and Woody making a run at RAY LEWIS for the (PSL PLAN) just like Favre..Sign Ray Lewis sell more tickets..

Sam Koch, one of the top punters in the league, we still need a quality and experienced punter

Aren't we 2 million over the cap as of now? How can the team even begin thinking of signing players until the cap situation is resolved?

Leonhard Leonhard Leonhard. I think this kid would be great for the jets. He has come up huge in the playoffs. He was pretty big play against the steelers. He's a UFA and he's a young guy with a ton of potential. He also should be pretty cheap.

i'd take Ivy, Leonhard, or Landry in a heartbeat. It looks like Leonhard and Ivy are likely the only ones we'll be able to afford until we cut a few of these ridiculous contracts. Bart Scott would be huge!!!

It's pretty much guaranteed Ryan will clean house, getting rid of junk like Barrett and Bryan Thomas. If he can get some guys to restructure like Bowens and Kenyon Coleman, in addition to Favre's retirement, the Jets could have decent cap room to sign a couple of those mid-level free agents like Bart Scott, Jim Leonhard, or Dawan Landry. Or maybe pursue only 1 elite free agent like Julius Peppers or Karlos Dansby (if not franchised).

Bart Scott would be a nice addition. I just dont see us getting Suggs or Lewis. I like Dawan Landry but he is a restricted Free agent so I doubt we get him and im not sold on Jim Leonard but he might be a Rex Ryan guy. Corey Ivy is another guy who would be a solid addition to our team. Obviously we cant get all these guys but I would love to add Bart Scott plus one of them.

we have cap issues every year, there have been plenty of threads showing that we will end up with a good amount of cap space

tanny is good with the cap, if nothing else

Brett Favre is due 13 million dollars this season. If he retires then if we are 2 million over the cap right now like you said then we are all of a sudden 11 million under the cap. Then you got guys like David Barett who would save us 3-4 million if they got cut.

Teams have cap problems all the time. But you can always move money around and make cuts.

I heard we are $10 mil over the cap but just by getting rid of Favre, Barrett, Bowens & Thomas we can be $10 mil under it & go for some freeagents

I'm not really sold on the idea of getting Ivy. He's a solid player but he's more of an in-the-box safety and I'm not sure how much more of an upgrade he would be over Elam. Still, I like his ability, good blitzing db and he can play the nickle slot.

We have a shot at Bart Scott because the Ravens will probablt re-sign Lewis and slap the franchise tag on Suggs meaning Scott would be the odd man out.

They franchised Suggs last year. I believe he signed the tender with the understanding that it wouldn't happen again.
