I think you can make a case for him....his stats aren't quite there yet...he's been in the league for 10 seasons...3 of them he played 16 games...but if he wills the Cardinals to a Super Bowl victory...i'd say he's worthy, IMO.
Yes- several dominant seasons 2 league MVP awards (all others with 2 or more are in the PFHOF or will be) Super Bowl MVP led two different franchises to the Super Bowl
Conditional yes qualified by either a Super Bowl win or a repeat performance next year. 10 seasons is a short time for a QB career. Though he has done great with the chances he's had, he needs to put a final grand statement on his resume be that one big one (the ring) or a season or two more seasons of solid football.
His negative talk about stem cell research and his loud mouth wife may come back to bite him when it comes to the voting since its the WRITERS who are voting him and supposedly Peter King has said he wouldent vote for Warner.......
You could write similar things about many QBs. Was Dan Fouts good before Winslow and Jefferson came to San Diego? Young threw to Rice and Taylor and then Owens.
That is not really true. The following are all QBs enshrined in the PFHOF. Jim Kelly- 11 seasons Aikman- 12 Van Brocklin- 12 Staubach- 11 Waterfield- 8 Luckman- 12 Graham- 10
I had this discussion with my dad. We weren't sure, both thought he belongs in Skip Bayless's "Hall of Very Good." But i gotta be honest, I completely forgot he won two MVPs. I think that changes my opinion to a definite yes.
you can definitely make a case for warner. the only problem is the down years he has had. i think he will get in but it wont be first ballot - unless he becomes the first qb to win a super bowl for 2 different teams
He had one awful season and another ruined due to injury. His other "down years" were with the Giants in 2004 and the Cardinals in 2005 and 2006. He played pretty good football those three years. Remember, in 2004 Warner had the Giants in position to make the playoffs and then Coughlin pulled him for Eli Manning, sort of similar to the Plummer-Cutler move by Mike Shanahan in 2006.
Both appeared on All-Pro teams a few times in the 1980s. Also, they played in a combined eight Pro Bowls, if you're into Pro Bowls. The point is neither were slouches. Every QB in the Hall of Fame threw to very good receivers.
