Dear Jonathan, As fans of the New York Jets, we never wanted to see you go. Our idiot HC thought you were an expendable piece given his preference for the 3-4. But us fans disagreed. We knew how talented you were. We knew our coach was a jackanapes... Now he is gone, and we are all happy. Yet, we still miss our favorite #51! That being said, I hear you are a free agent this summer. Congrats! Please come back to the fans who support you; who never threw out your jersey; who even rooted for you last year in New Orleans. We have a new athletic complex. We hear it's really nice! We are getting a new coach, a new stadium; things are looking up here! So, please tell your agent you want to return hime. Sincerely Yours, Your biggest Fans, the undersigned Mesheler
I concur. But i'm actually gonna provide an argument as to why i think Vilma should be back in green and white 1) He's still a solid tackler. We all know he can tackle, he always could tackle, and he still can. Late in the season i saw some of the most piss poor tackling i had seen from this team. 2) Still got potential. Remember when people thought he would be the best linebacker in jets history? he's still the same guy. Sure he had an injury, but i think he still has the same speed and physical capabilities. 3) he wasn't really given a shot at the 3-4. C'mon, he had Dewayned Robertson as protection. Ray Lewis was pissing and moaning before he got Ngata, and now he has Ngata in front of him and people say he is "revitalized". Why can't this happen to Vilma? 4) Rex Ryan/Steve Spagnuolo > Eric Mangini and Bob Sutton: 'Nuff said. 5) I can wear my old Vilma jersey once again (assuming he still wears #51). And in the end, is that not the most important thing?
LOL. Unbelievable.... Vilma did jackshit in New Orleans this year in his ideal 4-3 scheme. You want him to come back to a 3-4; be undersized, while having shown nothing more than average at best performance in the past 3 seasons? I'll pass. Draft Brandon Spikes or sign Bart Scott.... Vilma can go to Tampa Bay.
Vilma also added character to the team and was a leader , even back in 06' as young as he was. Im all for it since Barton might be on his way out.
This is better than a lot of what we've seen so far. It would be nice to wear my #51 jersey again though.
I gotta lot of love for Vilma... he was a great Jet, but putting him back into a system he isn't fit for is a mistake. Unless, of course, we are going to throw the 3-4 out the window and remodel a 4-3 - which would not surprise me in the least! hmy::lol:
Scott is nasty, and still pretty young. I would prefer him over Lewis who will be hanging them up in 2 or 3 years tops...
I certainly hope so... hard to have a lot of faith right now though. Be glad when the "wait & see" period is over.
Even if we went back to a 4-3... JV did nothing to warrant an extension from NO this year in their 4-3, what makes anyone think he'd be better here?
Vilma's good but he's gonna command too much salary on the open market, esp for a team starving for solid defensive players like Denver. Somebody's gonna offer him a shitload of money
Suggs is a OLB, and he´ll get at least what Pace got. If we would hire him, we would have tied close to 200 million to our OLBs. And RayRay has only 2, maybe 3 years left, and he will demand a 5-6 year contract, I´d pass. Scott is on top of my wishlist of FAs, shouldn´t be that expecive, and is a good all around ILB, who knows the system. As for Vilma, why would he even want to come back to a sceme, he doesn´t fit in? The other thing is, that he just is much more valueable to a 43 Team, than to a 34 Team, so we would always overpay him, while bidding against NO and other 43 Teams.
