I dont remember if it was the FAN or ESPN but there was a discussion about if Favre isnt coming back. And the Jets hire Rex Ryan he may bring in free agent Kyle Boller to compete against Ratliff and Clemens. It was also mentioned that Byron Leftwich may be another option. The free agent market for veteran QBs sucks.
Which is a good thing. Get a young QB going that you can develop. If you don't have one on your roster draft one. Don't want another old retread.
I Would like to give Clemens a shot with a very good o-line and a good receiver unlike in 07 when he played behind one of the worst o-lines and had no help from the run. If Ryan is hired and he wants to bring in someone like Boller to compete with Clemens and Ratliff im fine with that. Boller is a guy who had talent coming out of college and posseses a cannon for an arm but never worked out.
Couldnt agree more. Old is not the way to go. What worries me though is that you hear a lot of talk about how the Jets are close to being a real good team. I'm worried that they could sign a veteran QB to try and "go for it". Like I said im against an old veteran QB but I wouldnt be against giving a guy like Leftwhich (Boller im not so sure about) a shot to compete with either somebody we draft or Ratliff and Clemens.
Give me a break. If you look at the teams that were good this year, a significant portion of them won with guys you would have considered "retreads": The Arizona Cardinals, with Warner; the Panthers, when they signed Delhomme; the Bucs, when they signed Jeff Garcia; and the Dolphins, with Chad Pennington.
Colts with Manning, Chargers with Rivers, Steelers with Roethlisberger, Giants with Manning, Ravens with Flacco, Falcons with Ryan, Brees, Romo, etc. I'd rather have a guy like these than any of the ones you mentioned.
I wouldn't mind getting Boller and having him compete. He has the potential to be really good and deserves a second chance. He's not too old to change his ways.
I'm not saying he'll be great and he should come here, I'm just saying it wouldn't be bad and he still has potential.
