Pioli just took over the Chiefs and will fire Herm. If he wants a 3-4 D coach, he'll go after Schwartz or Ryan. If this happens Grimm is my guy. Imagine the back pages.

Why would Ryan leave one DC job for another. Only way Ryan leaves Baltimore is to be the head coach of the JETS.

You are having a bad reading day. He said they will be firing Herm and Pioli would want a 3-4 HC.

He's going to want Ferentz or someone from the Belicheck tree not named Mangini. Although Rob has ties to the Patriots, Rex has never worked for them.

the upside for the jets is that woody is likely willing to outspend anyone else, if it comes down to money

but i think ryan will want to go to the best situation, which would also be the jets ... i think

Chiefs is a good situation. Weak division , great homefield advantage, patient fan base that has won nothing in a long time outside of the Denver jo that has a franchise QB, whose is better?. The ESPN article says they like Spagnuolo, but I don't buy it.

i think i would rather choose the jets over the chiefs, they are in a major rebuild and i think switching to a 3-4 would be dumb, where would they put glen dorsey?

They really dont have any piece where you could say, well at least they have that, maybe bowe but, they dont have a qb to get him the ball

My first choice is Rex Ryan but as a Jets fan I'm prepared for the worst... So in the end I'll just be happy with anyone not named Brian Schottenheimer.

What if Rex Ryan sucks as a head coach as much as Marvin Lewis?

The 2000 Ravens' D that won the Super Bowl was better than this year's incarnation.
Remember how people couldn't stop fellating Marvin after that incredible year?

Now look at what's he done in Cincy, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. Great players like Ray Lewis and Ed Reed can make any coach look brilliant.

No guarantee that Herm is gone there yet. He may survive yet one more year. That dude has more coaching lives than a freaking cat.

This is a great point, when you are talking about a DC for Baltimore you should not get to excited. How hard is it to put together scemes and then have the likes of Suggs, Ray Lewis, Ed Reed etc going out on the field for you? Baltimore's D is always one of the best whether it's been Marvin Lewis or Mike Nolen, another Ravens DC who failed as a HC so the Jets better be careful. This is why I hate hiring Coordinators, everyone thought Mangini was a genius OC, well he had Tom Brady and Randy Moss etc in NE and now he's 3 years and done as a Jets HC.

You're assuming the Jets even want Ryan. They probably don't as he would cost more than a buck ninety-eight.

Although I did just reqad this from yesterday and I swear the Jets make all of their decisions based on what they read on this site.

    http://www.nypost.com/seven/01132009/sports/jets/spagnuolo__ryan_finalists_for_job_149940.htm

" The source who is familiar with the Jets' plans said the team is deciding between Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan for the job. The Jets also plan on keeping Brian Schottenheimer as offensive coordinator under either man, the source said.

Schottenheimer interviewed for the head coaching vacancy and impressed many in the organization. They fear the public backlash that would occur if he was given the head coaching job, though. Schottenheimer served as Eric Mangini's offensive coordinator and was never a fan favorite. "
