I must say, having been fortunate to have been on the field a few times as a photographer's assistant for both a few Jets and Giants games, as well as going to each Jets game in the seats, the loudest I've ever heard that place was during the Giants route of Minnesota back in 2001 in the NFC Championship game. There's no doubt in my mind that it would be just as loud if we ever get the chance to host such an event.
Man you are the most negative fan in these forums, if you think the Jets suck and everything is just crap, why don't you give up already. I'm tired of reading your rants every day.
Jets are the much younger fan base. They have the nickname "Your father's giants" for a reason. Naturally..we are much louder and a more fun loving crowd. It's a shame we don't have our own stadium..I really think we'd develop quite the home field advantage and unique stadium identity.
Wooooooooohoooooooooo I feel so awesome now that WFAN has respected me. My life is complete. What next? Peter King is going to compliment us too? Nirvana anyone?
If we're blowing a team out or getting blown out, like Giants fans, lots of our fans leave early to 1) tailgate more or 2) try to beat stadium traffic. Neither the Jets, Giants nor the Meadowlands are anything close to the loudest games played.
I'm just going by what they were saying on Mike's show today, whether they are just pissed the Giants lost and are looking for excuses I don't know but it's not the 1st time it's been mentioned that Jets home games are much louder and crazier then Giants games, maybe it's because we are a younger fanbase like the guy before said, a lot of Giants fans are up in age and like to just sit and watch where as most Jets fans never sit down or shutup unless the team is loosing badly. Maybe it can get even louder in the new stadium since it's at least half the Jets now which is better then anything this team has had in the past, they have always been 2nd fiddle to either the Mets or Giants, I know it's not the West Side stadium every Jet fan dreamed of, but this is the closest the Jets have ever come to having their own stadium.
Jets fans are NOT loud at all. Cheering after Ellis' TD? You would have to be not human to not get loud then. Most of the games they are as quiet as can be and many seats are empty at kickoff and in the third quarter. The Giants fans seemed pretty good yesterday compared to Jets games. I go to many sporting events, including atleast one Jets game a year, and the Jets crowd is always the weakest I attend.
Being louder than Giant fans is no accomplishment. When our crowd noise is compared to Washington, Denver, Pittsburgh, Green Bay, Kansas City, and Seattle.....then I'll be impressed. Those are the teams that have a real Home Field Advantage every week.
One thing I noticed yesterday on TV was that it appeared that Giants Stadium was packed for the opening kickoff . When they panned the stadium before kickoff, it looked like every seat was filled. I've had Jets season tickets for almost 30 years and the stands are usually 1/3 filled for kickoff at a Jet game. It is almost embarrassing. Good fans - fans that are there for the game - are in their seats for the kickoff.
What really shocked me was Ravens fans. That franchise is not even that old, and their fans are 50 TIMES LOUDER than Jets fans. The Atmosphere is so different, its sad.
I've been to a few Ravens games....they are VERY loud. I think they are mostly remnants of the Colts fans. I also helps that it is a blue collar town.
What was really disturbing happened in the Panthers Cardinals game. After every Carolina turnover, the crowd kept cheering! Again, and again, and again, every time Jake threw a pic, the crowd would cheer on the D. If that was the Jets, there would be raining boos and people leaving.
Ravens fans are very good. That city truly loves pro football. They were crazy for the Colts and the CFL team. They probably supported the Stars, too (the Philadelphia Stars coached by Jim Mora played in the first two USFL Championship Games and then relocated to Baltimore for the 1985 season where they would win their second straight USFL title).
I agree the Jets home games are louder. I always think about how loud it is when I watch a home game. The Giants do have the bigger following and more fans though.
I have had them for the same length of time, and you know what? You are right. The tailgate group that I associate with have about half that leave in time for the kickoff. I am very close to being seated in time, but often find myself taking that last wizaroo as the ball is struck. If you love it and you want it, you get your ass in on time. If I do make it to the new stadium, I hope it's not a mob scene at each gate which I think causes many of the empty seats. That's one thing that sucks at this place. I don't remember Shea being that way, though I suppose it's happened post- 9/11.
Well to be fair it was a playoff game. If it's a playoff game for the Jets, or just a really big game it is packed at kickoff. I agree it needs to be filled more often for regular games. And I agree with what a lot of people have said, we are louder than the Giants, but don't compare with a lot of the teams in the league. When things are going well, Jets games are loud, but Jets seem to get taken out of the game at the first sign of trouble, at least compared to a lot of other places like Baltimore, KC, Seattle, Pittsburgh, etc.
