Absolutely its there Rich... We changed back in the 80's and it didn't work out for Hess. Who's to say it won't work for this version of the Jets..

I like the uniforms. no reason to change them just for the sake of changing them. Jets aren't gonna go to the super bowl because they change their uniforms

Another reason to change the design is the fact that uniforms have changed. Most players do not wear sleeves anymore. You mostly only see QBs, kickers, and punters wearin' sleeves.
    Linemen are the worst.
Obviously, the reason for this is so opponents have less to grab.

As a result, we see the underarms of many players and a lot of the jerseys look silly. Just compare the jerseys of the 1968 Jets to the 2008 Jets. The "UCLA" stripe on the '68 jerseys actually extended all the way, or pretty much all the way, under the armpits. Look at the current jerseys. It's now just a half-stripe. It's downright silly-lookin'.

Teams that have piping on the "sleeves" of their jerseys especially look dopey (Steelers, Giants road jerseys, Browns, Cowboys). The lines have to be abbreviated and it just doesn't look right.

The teams with the new school jerseys (Cardinals, Falcons, Broncos, Vikings, etc., and numerous college teams) do not have this problem.

Easy cowboy. Nobody said anything about some gay fashion designer.. I would be surprised that every designer that designed a new uniform in the NFL might be gay. Denver, St. Louis, Atlanta, Seattle, New England, Tampa Bay?

Point is, every now and then, you have to update and evolve. Staying stagnant only leads to extinction.

A voice of reason in an otherwise ridiculous thread.

Ridiculous? Why? Cause YOU don't agree with the premise? Tell me then 227, Where's the link between the two franchises?

What does the 2009 NY Jets have in common with the 1969 Jets besides the name and the unis?

You want to remain mired in the past? Suit yourself. But I would think after 40years you'd be ready for real change.

For the love of God, get out of your comfort zone and move on.

Maybe that's the problem, not the uniforms.

I'd be all for bringing the black third jersey in. Purists will hate them but I personally think the black/green combo looks wicked. Our white jerseys are great no need to tamper... White cleats would be nice.

They would change them to reflect the new reality. There is NO link between this team and the 1969 Jets. Except for the name, there's none at all. At least the New England Patriots realized they weren't the Boston Patriots anymore and changed...

Again, this isn't the Joe Namath New York Jets that played in Shea Stadium anymore. Please believe that there is no link anymore. None and its time for this franchise to forge an entirely new identity.

OK what are they trying to do? I'd take the blue and gold over any variation of green and white.

I'm going to do it again...yes I am. When ya have 3 or 4 seconds to make a decision, while checking down, avoiding the rush, your eye is going to prefer the most contrasted color to its background.

Play a video game.....paint a picture....it's all in there folks. Not the cure, but certainly with the Jets historically piss-poor passing attack, give them an edge. Any edge. Why have colors that have any variation of blending in with the background? People make far too little of the peripheral eyesight/decision making process.

OK and uhhh...when is the last time you have seen a fucking green airplane? Vietnam?

And nothing for nothing, legacy only goes a generation or two deep. Would you prefer that the newer generations look at a throw-back team and decide to choose another team? Lost revenue....ultimately they either move the team or worse....

There's no GOOD reason to keep the colors.

    That's not the problem, either.

Super Bowls won by New Jersey teams: 3
Super Bowls won by New York teams: 1

    amazing fact of the day-

After the 1970 season, the Boston Patriots came very close to changing the team name to Bay State Patriots.

    1) Our uniforms are awesome. 2) Changing uniforms for the sake of luck is irrational, superstitious bullshit that has no bearing on reality.

Tell that to the Yankees. I'd like to see names on their uniforms.

    1) subjective at best.

    2) I'm talking science, not some bone throwing voodoo shat.

When you have an object of similar color to it's background, its going to get sketchy. This is 3rd grade science.

Its not simply to change the luck Slim. Its to establish a new identity seperate from Joe Namath's 1969 Jets. The only reason why Parcells reverted to those unis in the first place was to establish some sort of legacy and of course, "change the atmosphere" which indirectly, is changing the luck.

The New York Jets of Joe Namath and Leon Hess no longer exists. These present day uniforms are indeed Throwbacks and have no meaning except to remind Jet Fans just how long its been since they're played in a championship game.

I like our current uniforms, and a lot of other teams fans say it's one of the best in the league. Why change it?

We changed them in '98 to remind everyone that this team appeared in a Super Bowl once upon a time. I was thrilled then, and I am not looking for a change now. The way things are going lately i worry any change would be for the worse. I thanked the lord when Herm didn't change them - it would have been nasty. They almost had a *black* version that would have been friggin' disgusting. How many of you like the Mets in black?

I liked the sack exchange version of the uni's 79 - 82 or so, but then they tinkered with the shade and added black trim and to me, they looked like crap in the "Boomer" era. I wouldn't mind a throw back game to those uni's (better than the Titans)

I vote no for a total change.
