Good point, by some strange coincidence the good QBs are usually on teams with good running games.

Good QB's aren't the ones that throw for 5000 yards...(Drew Brees) They are the ones that manage the game and do what is needed to win.

Ben threw for 181 yards or so today...Rivers for 300+ You tell ME which QB had the better day.

in Ben's case for today, you're correct....but he has the top rated defense too. If Pitt was playing from behind....Ben's numbers would've reflected that.

Umm, Drew Brees is good, though. The Saints problem all year was their inept defense.

    Dan Marino was good, too.

Cardinals D was pretty inept all year too but they're in the NFC Championship game.

After the Jets, the teams I watch the most every year are the Cards and Saints. I don't care what numbers you find, the Saints defense was inept whereas the Cardinals defense played well enough from time to time.

Are you really somehow going to try to say Brees is not a good QB?

    Steelers fans are hot stuff.

If the Ravens get up on Pittsburgh next week, will Steelers fans exit the stadium just like they did during the Cleveland playoff game in 2002?

their D started producing at the right time.

I'll take consistency over being streaky any day of the week.

Flacco is a rookie and Big Ben only took two years to get the ring. Kurt Warner was going to be the backup until training camp started. Kerry Collins started due to an injury to the starter (Vince Young). I don't think that consistancy at QB has been proven if half of the final 8 QBs don't fit.

Also, two of the final four teams have rookie head coaches so we can't prove consistancy of the coaching staff is the reason for their success.

What the final four teams do have in common is that none of their key players were injured down the stretch. Given all of the upsets I think we could have gotten lucky if Favre, Jenkins, and Cotchery had stayed healthy.

Going from 4-12 to 9-7 is the right direction. As we say this weekend, every NFL team has holes. Injuries and coaching were our biggest problems down the stretch. Also, we have very few players that are expected to leave through free agency or retirement.

If we make good decisions in this offseason (coaching, QB, free agency, and the draft) we should be very dangerous next year.

No...I am not gonna try and say Drew Brees isn't a good QB...but you DO need more than just a QB to win a title.

The Bucs and Ravens have already proven that the Defense is key to winning a SB....while having a capable "Game manager" for a QB.

    That is true.

Brees was named the Offensive Player of the Year for good reason. He had only a few bad moments all year, but was otherwise great. His worst quarter of the season was the 4th quarter at Atlanta.

Imagine if the Steelers had Brees instead of Roethlisberger? 14-2 or 15-1 would have been their regular season record you'd have to think.

I disagree with this statement and in a way your point, the teams that win impose their will onto their opponents both offensively as well as defensively. The reason why San Diego couldn't win, why New England lost last year and why generally finesse teams fail is because of the consistent running game to compliment the passing attack which is one reason why the greatest show on turf was great even with a great pass attack because they had Marshall Faulk. The Colts won in 2006 thanks to the tandem Rhodes and Addai complimenting Peyton Manning, those kinds of teams also have the advantage from teams like yours or the Ravens in that they can win from coming back instead of being the front runner which is why the Giants lost today.

I feel the need to stress that a vast majority of REAL fans aren't the ones at the games. Tickets have priced going to a game well out of the budget for many people in this day and age. For the few games I am fortunate to go to in my lifetime I will NEVER leave a game early unless there is an emergency. I pay too much to go to the game to just leave early. For better or for worse I will get my money's worth.

In many NFL stadiums...a vast majority of "fans" at the game could care less whether they are there or not. That's why when you see a team fall way behind, many bolt for the parking lot.

I'm sure this is true for quite a few places in the league.

Steelers have had plenty of comeback wins during Ben's tenure. This year alone they came back to beat Ravens and Cowboys late in those games. A lot of people look at Ben's stats and since he isn't passing for gaudy numbers they say he's just a systems QB. I think our system on offense is built around his strengths.

If Ben wins the Super Bowl again this year, where will he rank in people's minds as one of the better QB's to play the game in the last 30 years.

That Browns-Steelers game was the early game that day. The Giants played the 49ers later in the second game. I can't believe Steelers fans would leave a game early (about half the crowd exited). I guess Pittsburgh is a happenin' town and football is not really as important in western PA as most people would have us believe.

Well, if he wins the Super Bowl and plays well in it, it'll be a first for him.

He has a ring already, but was putrid in Super Bowl 40.
