we are all in mostly unanimous agreement that a defensive coordinator is the best choice for our need at head coach. its now a question of which one. be aware that they will most certainly clean house, and establish a new staff, (I doubt anyone would remove Westhoff).... Realistic: Steve Spagnuolo Rex Ryan Possible: Jim Johnson Ron Meeks Reach: Dick Lebeau
Rex Ryan HAS to be the guy. Blitz-happy, aggressive with a solid football background. 5 years of coordinating a dominant defense... And he prefers a 34 which we have in place. Grimm would be my second option. Spagnuolo is intriguing but I'd rather not have to flip to the 4-3 again.
Ryan - Pros: Aggressive, loves to blitz. Mindset of putting the team's concerns over his admirable Cons: No HC experience, has been turned down before. Spags - Pros: Great football mind. Fiery, inspirational leader. Loves to get at the QB, not sit back and play coverage all day. Cons: No HC experience, turned himself down for the job before. Inherited very talented players which skews overall evaluation of his skill. Never had to build a defense from scratch, essentially the task at hand if he switches Jets to 4-3. Dick LeBeau - Pros: Great defensive mind. Father of the zone blitz. Confusing pass-rush typically leaves opposing QBs crying. Cons: see career 2000 - 2002. 72 years old. If he is referring to Pace's career as a 4-3 defensive end, then yes, Calvin Pace did suck.
Bryan Thomas has always sucked. Let's just get that straight. While Pace is a good fit in the 3-4...he would do fine in a 4-3 in Spags blitzing scheme.
Rex Ryan. I don't really have any argument, but rather a gut feeling. The way his defense dominated the Dolphins last weekend was unbelievable.
Spagnuolo would NOT change to a 4-3 just because that's the defense he knows. IF he were hired it would be as the head coach and not the defensive coordinator. Why are people so dumb when it comes to that around here?
I have stated from the start that i believe that Steve Spagnuolo is or guy, if i had one choice it would be him, the 3-4/4-3 debate is a moot point at this time, he will do what is best for the team, if he perceives us to fit better in a 3-4 than a 4-3 he will leave it, members on here are not the only people who can evaluate talent and there use in which type of defense.
I picked Jim Johnson because he'd be the best I think. The problem with Jim Johnson is that he is unavailable.
Dude, wipe that brown stuff off your mouth and put your hand down before you realize there's three more fingers pointing back at you.
You do realize it was Mangini, the HEAD COACH, who converted our defense to a 3-4 in the first place, right?
Get Spags go to a 4-3 Jenkins plays DT no more double teams wont wear down & he could dominate. Move Coleman to DT he is 295lbs & not a pass rusher but a good run stopper he competes with Poha for that spot. At DE Ellis is a 10 sack guy in a 4-3 the other DE is Gholston. MLB Harris he played that spot at Michigan weak side OLB Barton he has played that spot as well & for strong side OLB Pace this spot is for a bigger LB like Kiwanuca for the Giants. Spags is aggresive & we would put some heat on the QB
This team right now can't play the 4-3. We have no linebacker speed. And no speed off the edge with any type of pass rush. We have a real problem with team speed on defense.
Dick Lebeau? He never comes up in the offseason as a coaching option. Why would you even have this as a choice? His only stint as a head coach was AWFUL. From Wikipedia: Lebeau is anotehr coach who is good as a assistant but does not have the tools to do the big job. At 71 years old he would not be a long term option. As much as I love his defense, I don't see him as a head coach canidate.
you guys making switching back to the 4-3 so easy. It will be very difficult and won't happen so stop wishing
