Not to burst your bubble or anything...but torn rotator cuff's are only excuses in a Jets fan world...not only that bout throwing a deep ball once, early in San Diego is a little different from doing it in Pittsburgh. At one point in his career John Elway shit the bed in reaching the ultimate goal too. You make it there enough times, theres a good chance you'll win it. I have no idea where Chad's future lies, but saying all he does in the playoffs is shit the bed is just the easy thing to say. Thats cause most times a QB makes the playoffs, he's going to to "shit the bed." Theres only one "true" winner a year.
That's where you're missing the point. Not only does Chad not get it done, but look at how he loses in the Playoffs compared to how other QB's lose. I posted his stats in Playoff losses somewhere in this thread. At this point it's beyond coincidence that every loss he's thrown for only 0-1 TDs, while turning the ball over.
So now we're going to compare Chad to Elway? Awesome. Elway carried his teams deep into the playoffs quite a few times and was able to attack any defense he faced. Chad needs a 2000 Ravens to have a fighters chance at going deep into the playoffs because he cannot attack top tier defenses. Chad was never close to the talent that Elway was and never will be.
He wasn't comparing Chad to Elway... it looks like he's trying to make the point that if you can get your team in the playoffs often enough you are going to have a chance to win it all. Elway was hands down a much better QB, imo. He was a guy that could carry a team a good long distance. But, if you remember, even he needed a team around him, particularly a running attack, before he collected his ring and legacy.
I understand exactly what he's doing, but you cannot do that by ignoring the talent of the QB's. The reason Chad fails against top defenses is because of his physical limitations. Elway didn't have those limitations, quite the contrary.
You are right, Elway didn't have the same limitations as Chad, but that didn't manage to make him more likely to win a Super Bowl. He lost what, four of them? It's a team sport, and even Pennington would have a legitimate shot with a better team around him. Same for any player.
I disagree. Elway was much more likely to win a Superbowl. You have to get there to win it, and you have to be able to attack top NFL defenses to get there. Pennington would have a legitimate shot with an all-time great defense and a great supporting cast on offense.
I would agree, if we were to say which would have a better shot, but in the end it isn't enough to just be an elite passer. I don't think Chad would need an "all-time" great anything to get him a ring... but he would need a pretty solid supporting cast and a pretty good defense. He'd need more help than some, such as Elway.
The Elway comparison is what makes Chad Fans so amusing. There first of all is no basis for comparison - Chad has never even played in a Champ game, let alone gone to an SB and lost. The one time he came closest he put up 3 measly points ihn falling short - quite obviously Elway performed far better than that in getting to three SB's, not 4, before winning two. Elway also had no real running game and a bunch of overrated wideouts (only one of the Three Amigos was really quality) in his first three SB appearances. Chad had Martin as the leading rusher in 04, by comparison. Coles is tailing off now but he was better than anyone Elway had in his first three SB seasons. Elway could also put a ball in a barrel from seventy yards out. End of story.
Chad could not win the Sb if he had the Afc Pro Bowl team surrounding him. Stack the line make him throw end of story.
Chad put the nail in our coffin and basically stuck it to us and said "Eat that cockfaces!" so lets not talk "TOO" much shit about pennington cause it was just be stupid. That being said he showed he's an average QB by being dismantled by the Ravens D. Fucking walloped!
The Game isn't over yet.... Chad won Round 1. Personally, I'll be happy to face Chad when the Jets are better prepared to go all the way and with a defense that will knock him around... Great for Chad - they had a pretty little year but, given a harder schedule and given that they won't set another record for low turnovers and given Chad rarely stays healthy - I'm looking forward to the Jets improving and Miami thinking they have a QB that can take them any further than they just went.
