I completely agree with U. We will see this upcoming season since they play Pitt-SD-TN-JX-TB-Car-Indy-Hout besides the normal AFCE teams. Based on what we know & the Dolphins schedule next year they should regress by at least 5 games based on Chads limitations
Yes. The move was the correct one. It was worth a shot. I don't know where we go from here for a QB, but I'm done with the Favre experiment. Our F/O should call him up and tell him "we're moving in another direction," as Favre suggested we should possibly do. The last thing I'd do is sit around and twiddle my thumbs waiting for him to grace our presence with his "retirement decision." I understand Woody has PSLs to sell, but this is ridiculous already.
The only thing I will agree with is that Brady was certainly better than Bledsoe and a great QB. I won't agree he is the best of all time or even the best of his generation, Manning is. If Manning had the NE defense all these years he might have 5 rings.
U know the NYGs are having as much difficulty as selling those PSLs as Woody is & they are on the cusp of going to a 2nd straight SB?
Everyone made a big deal about that stat that there was never a 47 yarder hit in that direction in that Stadium but it was only the 4th year of that Stadium! It's not like it had been around 30 years. That was the 35th game in the Stadium, a qweek later Vinatieri hit a 48 yarder w/ about 10 yards to spare. it's been done numerous times since that day. Brien missed the 47 yarder off the crossbar- by inches!!!! if he kicks the 43 yarder the same way he makes it! It likely cost us a division title, it hurts our cap, cost us a coach, we need a new QB just a year later- how exactly was it worth it? The NE D has been hit or miss in postseason, the Colts D has played well enough to win multiple SBs but the O held them back. put Brady on Indy and they have at least 2-3 SBs, put Manning on NE and thye are lucky to have 1. Peyton is NOT a big game QB.
The NE D has been terrible in the second halves of SBs, that's for sure and that is why they can thank their lucky stars that they had the best PK to ever play in the NFL.
That K wouldn't have had a chance if not for the great QB setting him up. Has it helped Manning much? It helped year 1 but the last 2 years Indy didn't even win a playoff game, Brady has won at least 1 playoff game every year NE made the playoffs and outside of '05 has won at least 2 playoff games.
Even Ryan who is worn down right now looks like a stud. You watch all of those playoff games, Manning, Rivers, Flacco, Ryan all top picks that their teams have built good comeptitive teams around that will compete for years.
Favre wasn't a downgrade. Both QBs were a product of their environment. One team had really good D, and one team didn't for the most part. One beat the Titans in convincing fashion, and the other crumbled against the Ravens. I'd say ultimately they both have a competitive running game, but only one team used it...and it wasn't the Jets. If you add the fact that Favre was injured into the equation, then who was really better? Nobody. The Jets played their superbowl in week 11 or 12 and the Phins played their superbowl in week 16. While Favre was horrendous down the stretch, Pennington was typical Pennington, all year long. 2 or 3 good throws a game and pretty much mediocre to bad the rest of the game. Then the Ravens in the playoffs. This is where some of us were saying the day after Jets Vs Phins I that they would regret picking up Pennington. And that's that.
Are you saying Checkdown Chad wouldn't have had us in the same situation? Having Checkdown on our roster this year would probably have resulted in the division title, would have hurt our cap, more than likely "cost us" a coach and we'd still need a QB a year later. BTW, you're assuming Favre and Favre alone "cost us a coach." I would argue there's a lot more to Mangini's dismissal than Favre's horrendous INTs.
1 - That's 35 games without a 40+ yarder. That's something. While not 30 years, it's still something, considering 100+ FG tries had been attempted and all 40+ were missed. You can't just throw that stat by the wayside. Especially when you try to us AV as the example. He's a future HOF kicker. Was Doug Brien in the same class? No. Therefore you need to get your team closer. Simple - 100+ FGs attempted there, in which none were successful over 40 yards, and you do not have a strong kicker. The answer? They need to get closer. 2. It cost us a division title - alone. BS. Total and utter BS. Lack of a solid D, not pushing the rushing attack more AND Favre's crap play down the stretch, but he was hurt. This is all just too obvious.
Good morning Champ... good to "see" you. I am unaware of what the numbers are with the Giants' PSLs. I have been assuming they're having an easier time selling theirs. Am I wrong? Have you seen comparable figures? It just seemed likely they'd be having an easier time, especially right now.
As far as Favre hurting our Cap, I thought I read or heard somewhere where we have no Cap issues if we cut him or trade him.
The problem the Jets faced this past off season was a real one, and it was that the team needed to face up to the fact that Chad's failure to win the QB competition outright meant that on one hand there was little cause for inspiration and confidence in letting him start as Qb, but that Clemens also failed to win it outright, and this meant that there was no strong case to make to the still large contingent of Chad Fans who would have screamed if the CS gave the ball to Clemens. The Favre signing offered a way out, with some real upside hope. The way out was that the Favre signing gave the team sufficient cover to get rid of Chad, a move it had to make for the medium to long term future. We saw, we all saw, even Chad Fans who do not admit it, why the Jets were better off having gotten rid of Chad. His charmed season of an illusion of being a quality NFL Qb was shattered in another big game, the only big game he played in all year where his team needed him to step up, and instead he lied in bed and took a dump. Four dumps, actually. Once the Jets set up the camp competition last year and for arguably justifiable reasons determined not to sign a Qb prospect like Flacco or Ryan with a high pick, the best they could have done, if Chad as should have been expected failed to light it up in camp, was to bring Favre in, and obtain sufficient cover for getting rid of Chad. That Favre brought not enough upside to satisfy the Chad Fans, which is neither here nor there, but also participated in and contributed to another classic SOJ collapse, is certainly not to his credit. But the Jets did accomplish much by signing him, as was all to obvious to be seen there yesterday.
You might want to add that Jones stopped running too. He was a different player the first 12 games and the last 4 but he always gets a pass around here.
Ahhh....... yesterday helped ease the pain of a disappointing season. Seriously, who didn't see this coming. The Favre experiment failed, but yesterday proved WHY they rolled the dice. I've been hearing shit from dolphans all week, friends leaving messages, emails etc..... Even got a call from a trio of friends that went down to the game talking endless smack while they tailgated... and sounds from the stadium, etc.... I called back @ 11am and left a message that said "I hope you're tailgating hard, so the alcohol will ease the pain when Ed Reed returns a Chad floater for six"..... Sure enough  I like Chad, but he is what he is...... a real nice guy :breakdance: Either way the situation puts the JETS in a situation they need to be in..... Getting a real (& young) franchise QB. I will say Watching the games this weekend made me wonder if they would've lost to the Chiefs last year, would they have drafted Ryan (not that I would ever root for losing, especially against HERM) Some people were clamoring for Flacco here. I didn't see it. You guys were right. He's got a pair!
So you have Leon and Tony. Let's make no mistake that O was pass happy even towards the end. They could have adjusted to a run/screen oriented O and had much more success in the passing game, just like they did earlier int he season. Running is the slow grind out that gives your team a better chance to score more points later in the game. Assuming you can run the ball, which they could, if put in the position. Oh Jones didn't get 5 yards for that run, only 3.6, lets panic and start throwing. No, you punch it down the D's throat consistently and you wear Ds down. Who knows if it would have been the answer, but being this pass happy O that's going nowhere should have been put aside. And that is all on the coach.
I'm not sure I really understand the current smugness by some of Chad's failure against the Ravens. I mean, he was good enough to help kick our sorry ass out of the way and win a division title with a sub-par team. Say what you want about Chad, but it's awfully revealing about the pile of shit currently called the NY Jets. There is an even better chance now that we'll be on the ass-end of this division for a while.
4th place is so much closer to the Colon than third and we all know how important those division titles are in the NFL.
