He's on NBC's pregame coverage and he speaks well and is very knowledgeable. He was a great announcer before he became a GM, but every time the camera shows him I start laughing.
I saw him earlier tonight and just on principle, I changed the channel and came back when the game had started. There is absolutely no reason anyone should be paying him to provide expert opinion after what he did in detroit.
Speaking as an aspiring broadcaster, it's appalling that they'd give him a job after the Detroit Debacle. SURELY there are some knowledgeable former players and GM's out there they could have hired before this chump.
I didn't like him and was thrilled when he headed off to the Detroit front office. I got mad when he was fired by the Lions this season because I knew there was a chance he'd get a TV job again. I didn't like listening to this jerk off before the Lions fiasco. I certainly don't want to hear from him now. Here's a comment I made in a September 2007 baseball thread- I'm taking the Matt Millen approach. I'm just going to look at scores and then find out later who made the playoffs. Millen actually made a comment like that before the start of a Week 17 game in his final year of broadcasting. I couldn't believe it! Here he was announcing a game and he said he had no interest in the playoff scenarios because he didn't want to bother trying to figure them out! It's one thing if a fan takes that approach. It's another thing when a broadcaster doesn't give a shit.
Millen tarnished hie rep really bad in Detroit.... it was his personnel moves that caused their perfect season this year...
Can anyone think of a worst GM then Millen? I can think of lots of bad head coaches but I'm at a loss to think of one GM that is worse than Millen, even Al Davis as senile as he is does better.
Football Wizard to Bless Fans with Genius Words of Wisdom on Super Bowl Sunday Matt Millen, architect of the NFL's first 0-16 team, will be a studio analyst for NBC's Super Bowl pregame show.
How about Chris Russo talking about ANY sport? Anyone and everyone that's never picked up a football or a baseball bat in their lives is an expert. Not that I think Matt Millen is a football genius, but at least he won't just be blathering stats. What's next, Mark Cannizzaro carrying on about physical fitness?
If he's talking about talent, in any event, he should take the George Costanza approach - figure out what he thinks, and then say the exact opposite.
