This might just be heat-of-the-moment, but I think he looks like he has the tools to be a very good NFL QB. If he was around at approx #17 in R1, would you take him? He'd have a strong OL and running game, and some potentially young, talented WR's to work with; that's a great combination to allow a rookie QB to flourish. I might officially start the campaign for him now.
That's true, we'd need to upgrade there eventually. But I think he could make do with what we have for 1 season.
Favre consistently made bad decisions and underthrew recievers. I've been a huge Sanchez fan for a while, and I made a few posts about us drafting him a few weeks ago. He has all the tools to be a good NFL QB, and he seems to be a good decision maker. I disagree with saying that we don't have any threats at WR. While we lack a true #1, Cotchery and Keller are both very good targets for a QB. It's hard to believe that our next HC wouldn't utilize Stuckey and Clowney more than Mangini did. Sanchez for 09.
That's what I mean: We may not have any "real" threats, but we have enough potentially good players (Stuckey, Clowney, Keller, ?Henry?) along with Cotchery for him to succeed initially in his first season. And just think, if we upgrade from there, he'll have all the weapons he needs.
I think Sanchez wants to stay for his senior year -- he wants a national championship. He'll most likely be the #1 pro prospect in the 2010 draft. This year he'd be behind Stafford and Bradford.
Yeah that was actually my next question. I wasn't sure with Mustain there now if he'd just wanna bounce and enter the draft or stay on board for his last year.
If I were Sanchez, I'd come out - he has the most potential out of all of the underclassmen QBs because he's so athletic... Mustain looks like he'll be the next Carson Palmer type QB at USC.
If he came out, he'd be gone before 17. Too many teams ahead of the Jets need a QB. Stafford, Bradford, and Sanchez would all probably go in the Top 12. It's a Rivers, Manning, and Roethlisberger type scenario.
Detroit, Kansas City, Seattle, and San Francisco (possibly) is all I see. Seattle will probably go with Crabtree, and it seems like a lot of people in KC like Tyler Thigpen. I think Sanchez could slip a bit if he declares, but if not, hopefully we'll trade up to get him.
I can see either Bradford or Stafford slipping quite a bit. Thigpen looked really good even though he couldn't get the wins. Same with Hill in SF. SEattle is the wildcard but they have so many other needs they may stick with what they have. I think Sanchez should stick around one more year. He'd be a sure top 5 pick next year.
I think he'll enter the draft with Sarkisian leaving for Washington & all the others (Maulaga, Cushing, Matthews & probably even Mays) heading to the NFL. But I like what I saw of him today vs Penn St.
Let's say we pick 17 and Sanchez is available at around 12 (give or take); would it be too costly to trade up for him? I know we've been trading up a lot, and this is a deep draft class so it'll be nice to have picks, but if we have chance to move up to get a franchise QB who'll have a ready-made team for him with a good OL, we should do it.
I'd love to get Sanchez, but I think we can wait till the 2nd to grab him. I personally hope we go after Brandon Spikes.
Yeah, Sanchez won't be there very long. Seems impossible that he'd get past our pick. Hopefully the FO will take him if he's available.
http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=35162 I think he stays. He'll be next years top QB prospect IMO.
