This is from Boland blog in Newsday * Now, here?s something interesting that was first sent to me by Newsday?s Stephen Haynes and I saw it this morning on thejetsblog.com: Thomas Jones being interviewed on New York?s Hot 97 FM yesterday. Jones, smartly, was asked about Brett Favre and his propensity for interceptions. An aside: this is why I take my job seriously but not myself. These radio hosts, not part of the traditional sports media, got honest and forthright answers from Jones. This really isn?t rocket science most of the time. They certainly got better responses than we, collectively as the sports media, did Monday morning at that press conference. So anyway, this was Jones talking about Favre and his picks. He started by saying ?that?s our quarterback? and made clear he wasn?t blaming Favre solely but, ?At the same time you can?t turn the ball over and expect to win. The other day, the three interceptions really hurt us. That?s just reality. If I sit here and be like, ?Oh man, that?s okay,? that?s not reality. The reality is, you throw interceptions, you?re pissed off. You don?t like it. I don?t like it and I know everybody else on the team don?t like it, but all you can do is fight [through it]? When somebody?s not playing well, you need to come out of the game. You?re jeopardizing the whole team?s efforts because you?re having a bad day. To me, that?s not fair to everybody else. I mean, you?re not the only one on the team.? I couldn?t quite discern the next question but Jones continued, ?It definitely gets like that because you?re playing to win, you?re playing for the Super Bowl. That?s what you do all this work for. We start in minicamp in May and training camp, banging for two, three weeks and that?s what you do it for. So when you get to the wire and then somebody?s just giving the game up, it?s not fair to everybody else.?
And in Newsday today, the players support Mangini. It wasn't the coach who lost the team, it was #4 who never won over the locker room in the first place. And the owner gets rid of the coach and keeps the biggest problem on the team. What coach wants to be saddled with Favre as a QB? That 0-9 record for Woody is only going to grow worse until he sells the team. http://www.newsday.com/sports/football/jets/ny-spfavre0101,0,147368.story
In the context, reading all of it. You can see Thomas does not totally rip Favre, he is just telling it as it is.
I think the players are trying to get a message to the Front office by saying all these things to the media They need to make sure Farve is ready for camp or send him on his way. It is not fair to his team.
I think the goal is to make the playoffs, and then to win the SB. They are two different seasons. A team like the Colts a few years ago, or the Oatriots last year were expected to win the SB so it makes the regular season more worthless.
the older you get the more important the super bowl becomes. at this point in my life i can just sit back and enjoy whatever happens because football is entertainment and i have better things to do than be pissed the jets didn't win the superbowl. i have noticed in recent years that my dad cares less and less about enjoying the season and has grown into the fan that only wants to win a super bowl. i really think its just an age and frustration thing. i became a real fan around the time i was 10 years old. so that means this is my tenth season watching the jets screw things up, and overall it hasn't been a bad ten years as far as success. maybe in another 20 ill be in the superbowl or the season sucked boat, but at this point i dont have those feelings.
"So when you get to the wire and then somebody’s just giving the game up, it’s not fair to everybody else.” "somebody's just giving the game up" is a very interesting statement, which can be inferred several ways. TJ is obviously questioning Favre's desire and motivation to win, or lack thereof.
TJ going on the radio and talking that crap is just TJ acting like a jackass. He sounds like he's taking his cue from T.O. in terms of dissing his teammates and coaches to the media. If TJ isn't man enough to voice his opinions directly to Farvre then he is just a pussy like T.O.
Basicly, the oppisite of 99% of the people who are ripping him around here. Then again wew are Jets fans, no one expects us to be classy.
TJ is a whining millionaire bitching about sports when millions of americans are losing their jobs or are worried about losing their jobs. Nobody gives a shit about whether TJ thinks its wrong for BF to get some special treatment. Hell, Tj didn't do dog doo against the dolphins and he is still making $4M a yr. TJ: SYFM, Cash Your checks and stop trying to rip your teammates. If you have the balls to do so - confront BF yourself in the locker room. Otherwise SYFM.
are you kidding me, TJ had every right to say what he said, this might have been his last good year, he will turn 31 next season, and rbs usually dont stay that long. This might have been his last good chance to make a run into the playoffs and Brett ruined it, he has every right to be upset
its amazing when you read a little more of what was said how it sounds in comparison to the bs that espn is scrolling across their little screen and talking about. typical of them though. creating more drama by selectively choosing what to put down, sure would have been nice of them to play a audio excerpt of the convo too, but oh wait thats radio they cant do that. abdul you do sound quite bitter and angry this evening.
Jenkins was the only player really saying great things about Mangini. That could mean a lot of things, one of them is that Mangini was a great coach. I consider that one of the less likely possibilities. It makes more sense to me that Jenkins was close to Mangini because that is the only Jet coach he ever had, Mangini believed in him when he had doubters, and Mangini was extra close to him because Mangini was a NT in college. I think Mangini holds some kind of sack record for NTs at div 3 Wesleyan. Doesn't mean anything except he's gonna be tight with Jet NTs. ps. Maybe Jenkins is a really nice guy, thats an option. And remember, the two big DTs in free agency last year were Shaun Rogers and Jenkins, and Rogers was supposed to be more talented. The Jets only wanted Jenkins, thought Rogers was a bad apple. Maybe Jenkins appreciates that.
