The original poster should not be allowed to create a thread until Mangini no longer coaches in this league.... Come on guys, can these threads get any worse? Complete clusterfu.k in this forum, seriously....
Only blindly optimistic fools were talking as if he was a great coach when we were 8-3. Go look back at the posts here (not the newspapers, as they see a W, and get all worked up regardless)... We KNEW we weren't making halftime adjustments. We KNEW our pass coverage had not been improved, and was a glaring weak spot. We KNEW, Kerry Rhodes was not being used correctly. We KNEW Leon needed more touches. We KNEW our RZ playcalling was atrocious. And we KNEW the prevent defense arose in way too many games, way too early. And that was when we were 8-3.
Absolutely. One road playoff game in three years, a sub .500 career record, and all of a sudden he's God's gift to the NFL. Crappy defense, inconsistent STs, poor game decisions, absent in-game adjustments, weak playcalling, bad people skills, and the koolaid drinkers miss him already. LOL.
There's something beautiful and right about these three threads in a row: Send out a feeler to Pete Carroll Bring back Herm Edwards Rehire Mangini When you couple that with the premise behind this thread - that this is no different than going back and groveling to an ex-girlfriend - I can't help but smile. It's like battered spouse syndrome.
Look at the success of teams that go through coaches like disposable diapers (Redskins, Lions, Raiders, Rams). BAD. Then look at the success of the franchises that allow their coaches to have a little staying power even when they have bad season or two (Panthers, Giants, Titans, Steelers, Eagles, Colts). OVERALL PRETTY GOOD.
I believe the title of the M.A.S.H. theme song was: "Suicide is Painless".. Not to belabor a point here DB, but this franchise already looks like the joke of the League. ReHiring Mangini in any capacity would be devastating. No coaching candidate, experienced or otherwise would ever consider working for SideShow Woody again.
The Browns gave Crennel an extra year. Worked out great. I can't believe this to be anything other than the work of a troll. Baring the 'Buffalo Miracle', the Jets are 8-8 this year, with an epic collapse and a TOTAL reversal of progress. If we had 8 more games we might have won 2. Yes. I want that back. Sign me up.
I am not so sure, seems like these are uncharted waters. I know I personally would love the honesty of a team admitting they made a somewhat rash emotional decision after a tough loss to end a season with high hopes. Firing a coach often times is the easy way out. I look at how the Titans have done things (coaching wise) and I subscribe to their philosophy. They were bad for 3 straight years 2004 5-11, 2005 4-12, 2006 8-8. They didn't panic or lose faith in Fisher and they're a better team/franchise for sticking with him. Look at the Steelers as well. Cowher had 3 staright non playoff years from 1998-2000. They didn't panic and fire him and look how that has turned out.
The sad part of this thread is, bringing Mangini back as HC after firing him would be the least embarrassing thing that's happened all week.
Don't bother yourself with any of those pesky facts bud. Who cares how other successful franchises have done things? They probably just got lucky.
No, not yet. Just a massive case of greed. Which is worse.. A owner that tears a franchise apart because he is senile, even though his intentions are good and he desperately wants to win, he is just making all the wrong choices for the right reason. A owner who doesn't care about winning and has no passion for it. He is in it for the money and to do anything he can to make this team a seller, regardless of the outcome of these seasons.
I totally agree. Mangini was outcoached every week. Even after 3 years his 3-4 defense produced the worst pass rush in the league--With the schedule the jets had, they should have been 13-3. Mangini was worst on 4th down decisions--He always punted when he should have gone for it or tried field goal--The Raiders beat us when Sebastian J. kicked a 57 yarder in OT--Mangenius didn't have the balls to ever try something like that. On the opening drive on 4th and inches from the Seattle 3 he kicks a FG (and then doesn't score the rest of the game). I'm convinced the jets UNDERACHIEVED BIG TIME under Mangini.
Just when was the last time the Jets fired a HC? You'd have to go back to clueless Kotite. And if you believe Kotite he was "stepping down". Before that, it was Pete Caroll who was fired so that Hess could hire Kotite. Before Petey, we had Coslett for I believe 5 years and before that it was Joe Walton for 5 or 6 years. Who out of these bums deserved to be here longer? In the Woody era, we've had the Tuna regime for 4 years (Tuna and Groh both quit), the Herm era for 5 years (who also quit/forced his way out of town), and Manidiot. So how has the team kept firing coaches?
