it wasn't as bad as it sounds when you quote the words. He definetely didn't tell the team something like Its our game to win! He was sounding a little iffy on the win thing, but it wasn't as bad as people are saying. And when he said "play our game, whatever that is" I think he meant just do whatever you have to do to win. Still, the Drew Brees pre game hooping and hollering will beat out that pre game any day.
Maurice Richard A REAL LEGEND!!! "Because I always try so hard to win and had my troubles in Boston, I was suspended. At playoff time, it hurts not to be in the game with the boys. However, I want to do what is good for the people of Montreal and the team. So that no further harm will be done, I would like to ask everyone to get behind the team and to help the boys win from the Rangers and Detroit. I will take my punishment and come back next year to help the club and younger players to win the cup." Thus ended the disorder, and stopped the riots. HE THEN FOLLOWED THIS UP WITH 5 STRAIGHT STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONSHIPS!!! (In a league that discriminated against him, not kissed his ass) Oh and by the way, he was in his late 30's he had several chronic injuries (wrist and ankle) and Parkinson disease. Since Woody wants "it" back I'd be happy with one!!! Wishful thinking...
on 1050 espn radio the other day. don la greca and greg buttle where talking about when they where walking in the tunnels with the miami dolphins.the dolphins where jumping up and down like wild dogs and barking in unisex.la greca said he was actually scared and buttle said yea they where definitely ready to play and knew the jets where in for a tough fight.
Yeah I heard that, said they were jumping up and down barking in unison and chanting some somoan war chant or some shit, both said they were scared to be there, I thought it was funny.
I took a little leave over the Holidays to spend with the family and ended up watching the game with my fiance, my mom, and stepdad whose a huge Favre crotch sniffer by the way. The pregame speech was so bad that my mom, who knows nothing about sports, looked over at me with this dumbfounded look and said "what kind of pep talk was that??"
A friend of mine at CBS said they cut out the part of Favre's pregame speech when he said, "Get your farts out fellas, I don't want to smell them on the field....Ok, win on three....1, 2, 3, Win!"
This goes to show how much better are personnel are: we were basically just going through the motions with a QB who threw 3 picks, with no playoff possibility, and we almost won. This is on the CS entirely. Even though the pats don't jump around, there's always a quiet intensity and sense of professionalism. We are emotionally flat, just like EM. Also, I don't know why but it seems like BF is or was clinically depressed. This is basically an illness so I don't know how much he can be blamed.
Some of you guys will take any shot you can I guess. And, again, not surprisingly have missed the point. The head coach of the team is the one who should be motivating players. Getting them ready for big games. Preparing them for adversity as well as success. Favre has done that type of speech for years. All he is doing is trying to get guys to relax and not play tight.
How many excuses did that guys 3 lousy picks earn him in your book??? Give me a break, his speech sucked, he sucked, and th CS had nothing to do with it. Stop giving that bum Favre a break, GIVE ME ONE!!! The big Legends in all sports have were great leaders and have won multiple championships. After hearing BF garbage, it's amazing he even was one. He was pure garbage for 5 straight weeks, no coach was the cause of that, he just plain SUCKED!!! And then you here him speak, and make excuses, what a legend, what a leader, what a piece of crap!!!
The best motivational speeches are given by none other than Ray Lewis. Love him or hate him he gets the Ravens team motivated!
Everyone who is giving Favre shit for saying, "If it works out, it works out, if it doesn't, it doesn't," did you take that to mean the game they were playing? I didn't. I took that as a reference to the fact that they didn't control their playoff destiny. You know, just control the things you can. If the Ravens/Pats lose and it works out, great. Besides, I think some of you are a little to fascinated by this rah-rah fantasy notion of leadership.
You are right, would have loved to hear the speech that lead to the 3 points we put up in Seattle that cost us "Control"
Yeah, I think it was Ray Lewis' awesome speech that really helped his friends get motivated about stabbing people at a bar, and his speech didn't help a 13-3 team win the super bowl a few years back. We're all bummed about the game, clearly, but I think it's a mistake to put too much emphasis on one speech. The dye was cast for our losing during the 4+ weeks of suck that lead up to the game, not in the 7 seconds of words that began it.
All very true, and the way that team folded like a cheap suit I bet most of the speeches went the way the last 7 second one did.
