Parcells was our Gm once and he nearly ruined us. He's done a good job in Miami b/c he's not as involved. he picked Ireland and Sparano and let them do their things. Picking players is not his strong point.
This organization needs something it has never had. STABILITY. Parcells is a great coach, a great talent evaluator, a great motivator, but he does not bring STABILITY. I want that, for a change. Parcells would work if he brought along a coach, like a Jason Garrett(not him specifically), who was being groomed as the Head coach in waiting. Someone who would continue with the same philosophy, and keep the continuity going, as Parcells would probably be talking retirement again, by years end.
Stability is not important IF there is somebody in the organization who is competent enough to hire the guy who follows Parcells. Everybody knows how he works. He will get the right players to get the job done. He will turn the team arond and then he will leave. Maybe he will have won a SB and maybe not. The point is you need to be able to put somebody in place who can build on what he has left behind. He would be perfect here. He was before and he would be again. The problem is the timing. Things would need to happen fast.
No. You need a coach that can outlast Favre, if he does not retire. Then you can set up underneath that coach, someone to take over, about the same time as you put Ratliffe undercenter. You can bring along a DC or other assistant to groom. Remember Herm had success with the team Parcells built even though we had cap problems. Get Parcells on the sideline, bring RAC back as DC...Parcells could probably get more out of Schottenheimer as well... If Parcells is sending out sideline feelers, it's because he thinks the talent is already in place to win. He's not coming back to do a rebuliding job.
Yeah, I'm with ya here. I want somebody who will make a long-term commitment to the team and bring winning seasons, great football in December, and playoff appearances. Parcells would improve us next year and we would play good while he is here, but you can't expect the guy to be here longer than 3 years, if you're lucky.
Do you think this team is ever going to have a coach for more than 5 years? The only way that happens is if we find some pocket-rocket rookie or some greybeard coach like Cowher who comes in and wins a SB within 2 seasons, and keeps the team in the upper echelon of NFL teams consistently. Anything other than that will end up with a 1, 3 or 5 year exit. That's the trend that Woody is setting. Get used to it.
That won't happen, because Parcells tends to rape his previous teams of the strongest coaching talent when he moves on to his next whimsy. That's how we lost Bill Muir. Parcells tampered when he was planning on going to Tampa and Muir left town to be there before him, only the NFL started sniffing around when the Jets and Bears bitched about tampering and Tuna back out. If they hadn't caught him, he'd have another ring instead of Gruden.
yeah he seems to be more of a free agent guy. i dont think he likes rookies, or cares to develop them cause he knows he's not gonna be around long enough. i think he did get us jason ferguson in the 6th or 7th round of one draft though...
Didn't we learn our lesson the last time we brought in a guy who was retired but then "felt the itch" to return?
Same here, except I can see him leaving anyone and going anywhere. Seen it before, could see it again. No argument from me if he comes back, we've been getting by with his underlings, might as well get the real Tuna if we can.
I do feel parcells will end up somewhere next year. Think about it he is someone who likes to keep that resume clean and other then dallas has been very successful. I really think in his head not sure what he can do for encore next year- 1-15- 11-5 afc east champ. Tougher schedule next year- loss of ricky williams possibly etc...... + as much as parcells likes pennington does he think at this point he can make a super bowl with him? I don't think he does he believes Henne is the future and whenever that change happens you would tend to believe you would see a step backwards before forward again.
Why? Are you dumping Favre? If Favre returns, Parcells is probably the perfect candidate.(I still put the odds at 50-1 against)... Parcells wouldn't think twice about yanking off the field and sticking Ratliffe in.
Best thing about getting Parcells is he would take all the hidden gems on the MIA coaching staff with him. I never heard of Tony Sparano before, it took me six months to stop calling him Tony Soprano. Turns out he can coach.
Do you read what you type before you press submit? In what dimension is Parcells anywhere near the realm of washed up? And stability is nice but you cant blame this fanbase for being impatient and wanting results now.
I'd like to see Parcells come home. What do you think our record would be with him as coach this year? We'd still be playing.
Sigh. Nearly ruined us? Seriously? When we were a half away from the superbowl? Or when he turned us around from 1-15 to 9-7?
