He also played on the same Manalapan High School Baseball team as Nationals pitcher Jason Bergman. I believe however he was born in Brooklyn and grew up down the Jersey Shore. He's a decent player but nothing special. I like him because he's a Jersey guy but I'd hate to see him go to the Yanks. I don't even think he'd be an everyday player with you guys. I know their future CF is still about 2 years away from being ready..... what's sad is I know so much about KC.

I like DeJesus. I've said before I'd like to have him here.

Hey jonny, when the "team that shall go unnamed" game was over, my wife turned to me and asked, "When does baseball start?"

Even if he throws 2 no-hitters, a perfect game, posts an ERA of 1.35, wins 22 games every year, takes home the Cy Young each year, all while leading the Yankees to 3 consecutive titles?

But I get it. He's fat, so clearly he can't possibly be worth the money.

Yankee fans over at ESPN boards refer to ESPN as RSPN...they had a poll earlier, "Who will pitch betterin 09: Burnett or Penny"

    f7cking homers.

More because there's not a lot to discuss right now than anything else. But also, it's hard not to say something when someone makes a totally illogical comment.

Bleh. It's always the same BS with ESPN. They love New England teams. Whatever.

Why exactly is this such a homer post?

Aside from his 08, Penny is younger and has been a better pitcher than Burnett over the last 4 or 5 years.

As a Mets fan, I saw enough of AJ Burnett in Florida to know that he is really just an above-average starter. Penny was the All-Star game starter in 07.

I don't like the Yankees or the Red Sox, so no reason for me to buy biased here. But the Brad Penny signing has a big-time upside, whereas Burnett would need to have a few career years to play up to his contract.

The Yankees would've been better off going with Ben Sheets. Similar injury problems, less of a commitment, and just a better pitcher.

Both Sheets and Penny are NL lifers which gives them two strikes against them going to the AL east. That has been proven over and over.

I know you know in your heart none of those things will happen. If he continues to add 20 pounds of fat a year like he has been doing the more likely result will be that he blows out a knee or his back.

The post wasn't homer, the poll was. It was homer because they always find a way to draw comparisons with the Red Sox, no matter what scenario.

Might as well make a poll, "What player will have the better year: Lincecum or Penny"

The Yankees wouldn't have been better of signing Sheets because he is coming off a bad injury year, he barely pitched.

Wow, first of all, I posted ridiculous stats to make the point. If he pitched like that for ONE year I'd say his entire contract was more than worth it.

Second of all, you are in the same boat people like him are. You're solely concerned with the fact that the guy is overweight, and don't give two shits that he's one of the best pitchers in baseball.

It's absolutely stupid and at least borderline retarded. Worry about how the guy performs when he's on the mound, not how he performs at the Sunday afternoon brunch buffet.

Um, completely incorrect. He made 31 starts, throwing 198 1/3 innings. He was 13-9 with a 3.09 ERA, a 3:1 K/BB ratio, a 139 ERA+ and made the All Star team. So by any measure, your post is wrong. Sheets had a better year than Burnett.

Yeah seriously, who ever compares the Yankees to the Red Sox?

A Yankee fan complaining about anyone else getting too much media attention would be like A-Rod saying he thinks Teixeria makes too much money.

Yeah you are correct, he had a good year. I didn't follow the Brewers and from the way they were talking about his injury at year's end it sounded like it was nagging him season long...

    Edit: 5 complete games too

...but he had a rather troubling injury at the end of the season AND pitched in the NL Central, not the AL East.

Also, Burnett's peripherals are better than Sheets' for the most part.
