I know I'm dreaming for thinking this, but wouldn't it be nice if all this switching around resulted in a defense that became proficient in both styles of play? But no, with our luck, we'll probably just end up with a squad that sucks at both.
On a different note, Spags' system puts a lot of pressure on CBs to play single coverage. Outside of Revis, the Jets don't have the personnel for this. I know it's a sexy pick, but if you look at the details it's not really a good fit.
You mad? lol. I think Spags has done a great job with the Giants and what he meant to say that we have some talent like Gholston, Pace and Ellis whom he thinks Spags would be able to work with and plug into different type of rushes/blitzes.
Not angry, though anxious. And the Giants previously employed a 3-4 with a 4-3 look under Tim Lewis. Spags kept a few small elements of that, but this defense is most certainly a 4-3 that (albeit one that loves fire-blitzing and zone-dogging). And I'm not trying to troll or start a shit-fest with this, but the Giants have better pass-rushing talent than the Jets do. Not saying Spags couldn't use the Jets talent, but the result may not be the same.
Haha, I'm just pulling your leg dude. Obviously results may vary, but can you honestly tell me there is a better option than Spags? Bill Cowher is not willing to coach unless he's given a blank check. To me, that isn't how I want to find my next coach. On my list, I like the Vikings defensive coordinator, Ron Rivera and that's about all.
What’s with all of the fretting over us abandoning the 3 – 4 or sticking with it? The way I see it – we are an atrocious 3 – 4; we could just as easily be an atrocious 4 – 3 without changing any players.
We'd probably take a step back defensively if we brought him in. Another new system is unnecessary. We need passrushers!
Oh man...a point I wanted to bring up but I figured I'd get called a Spags love/homer already making excuses for him. I mean Spags walked into a team with 3 of the games top pass rushers (Strahan, Osi, Tuck). I put Tuck in there because dude was a star in the making from Day 1...
Couldn't have said it better Get me Spags and call it a day- pillaging the Andy Reid tree sounds better than dealing with the New England nonsense, none of whom can sniff Belichick
Either of the Ryan brothers would be great. They run a 3-4 and they have that aggressive mentality. Take Rex Ryan from Oakland, anyone to survive that shitfest and actually produce a defense capable of winning a few games deserves to be HC for a franchise that's not the Raiders. His players love him. He has more DC experience than Spags. And you don't need to change defenses. Take him for HC. That's the guy that, as I see it, is the best man for the job.
The Jets fielded a damn good 3-4 for a while this season. The personnel is finally there; don't change systems.
Valid point. That's Rob Ryan from the Raiders though. Rex is the defensive cord from the Ravens. The Ryan brothers are good candidates indeed.
