"Schwartz got his start in the NFL doing research for Bill Belichick on the Cleveland Browns staff in the mid-1990s. Since then, he has continued to do work with Pro Football Prospectus and Football Outsiders founder Aaron Schatz, which has earned him a somewhat unique reputation among NFL coaches as a "Moneyball-style" statistical analyst." How awesome does that sound? He's done a remarkable job with the Titans D over the years too. This guy sounds great.
One can be a great football coach and also dip his brain into statistical analysis. I'm sure Belichick is an excellent numbers guy. He's been able to put together an excellent Titans D on a consistent basis while at the same time doing statistical analysis.
I like Schwartz too....the guy knows defense. When Haynesworth went down...the backup who stepped in for him had 3 sacks and 3 forced fumbles against the Steelers. That's the mark of a great coach. Imagine what he could do with that turd Gholston.
Schwartz sounds okay, but why would you prefer him to a proven winner like Cowher? I'd be thrilled if Cowher took this job and became our next head coach.
I believe a fresh face is the way to go here. ATL, MIA, and BAL are playing next week w/ rookie HC's.
IDK, we'll see how they do next year. I rather have a coach with experience, ATL and MIA had a terrible fan base and were being sold, their success seems kinda fluky this year IMO.
Cowher will demand a lot more money and control and his teams always choked in the big spots. I find it hilarious how because the refs handed a Super Bowl to him and then he retired, all of a sudden everyone wants him.
I don't understand why everyone is so in love with Cowher either. The guy was almost militantly against passing the ball during his tenure in Pittsburgh(If the Jets are foolish enough to allow Favre to return this may be a positive for at least one year). Basically with him being only with the one team his whole career and it being the same team every year I worry that he won't be able to adjust to what the Jets have on their roster and just want to play "his style" of football. While this guy sounds like an interesting choice I think the Jets are going to go after a "name" like they did when they acquired Favre rather then the best guy for the job.
I agree with you 100% The Steelers were notorious for choking in big games throughout Cowher's career, and he only held onto his job due to the Rooney's insistence on never changing coaches. Had Cowher worked for any of the other 29 owners in football he would've been canned in the mid '90s and his name would be reacted to with scoffs like those of Martz or Mariucci. What's more, after the way he lost his passion after finally winning a Super Bowl in Pittsburgh, does anyone really see him as a longterm solution for this franchise? I can't imagine him having more than a 3 year tenure at best, can you?
