Right now we have a soulless money hungry owner, a snake of a GM, an underachieving team without a coach and a 39 year old bi-polar QB who wants to run the show if he "blesses us" with his presence for another year. My question to you is...what legit candidate will consider NY with that kind of baggage? My Prediction: Cowher Balks and we bring in some retread. It will not be a no-name again...they have to change it up. Your thoughts on what is a really lousy situation for the Jets?
Favre is not that bad. The play calling was horrible. If we had better play calling and better execution, Favre throws much less INT's. I could see Favre playing great in 2009 with better coaches.
My thoughts? We don't have a souless, money hungry owner. Woody is under some legit financial pressure with the new stadium, I'll grant you that, but thats not the main reason that he fired Mangini. The team fell apart in the last month of the season. And it wasn't just Favre and his turnovers. We had no pash rush, we couldn't stop the run and we made ST blunders all over the place. Mangini made some seriously bad coaching decisions in SF and Seattle as well. Why is our GM a snake? Because he didn't fall on his sword with Mangini? I tell you what though, they're going to have to let whoever comes in as HC make the decision about who is that starting QB here.
I'm not referring to his ability when I mention the "Favre Factor"...I was referring to the effect he has on the team. He was without a doubt a distraction this year and how can you expect this team to build chemistry with a 39 year old QB whos on and off the field decision-making is completely erratic? If im a coach with options, the Jets job seems like a headache I'd take a pass on at this point. Whoever takes the job will have 3 bosses...Woody, Tanny and Bretty. I suppose if you supported dumping Chad and bringing in Favre in the middle of Training Camp then you and I will agree to disagree about Woody and Tannenbaum. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and mine is that Woody really stuck it to the fans with that Favre move. As many will agree, it was all about selling Jerseys and PSLs. It was not about putting the "best team on the field". At the time it wreaked of greed and it had trainwreck written all over it. Tanny is the Jester making the King happy by telling his what he wants to hear ... how about telling Woody that the Favre experiment was a disaster and that Gholston was a disaster...He's not the talent guru and deal-master that he plays himself to be. Granted Mangini had to go, but the top of this organization would not give a new coach the comfort that the Hess Adminstration did. Leon was all class and loyalty.
I did support the aquisition of Favre. The NFL is a competition. You get the best players that you can. Its not a matter of disloyalty. When we got Brett, coming off his year in '07, he looked to have it all over Chad. It was the move to make. Hey, I don't dislike Chad, I'm glad hes had success in Miami, but you can't kill the owner and GM for trying to make the team better. Yeah, and what did Leon Hess and Jets fans get for all his loyalty?
Yeah, we'll have to disagree. If the only reason Favre was brought to the Jets was to sell jerseys, then Green Bay wouldn't have cared if he went to the Vikings (where Favre really wanted to go). So there are other teams other than the Jets who knew he could still play. I don't know if you own any businesses or not, but making money is a top priority for any business. In sports, nothing will generate more revenue than a winning team. All that said, I wasn't a fan of bringing Favre here. I thought we had just as good a QB option at the time in Pennington. I'll admit I'm biased because I really like Chad, but at this point in both of their careers, I think it's a draw as to who is better. We'll know by who the Jets select as their new head coach if your views on ownership are correct. I hope you're wrong.
I agree. This is the JETS. A medical exam will probably show Favre has some serious shoulder/arm ailment....... They replace a reliable, yet OFTEN injured QB, for the NFL's IRON man. The former goes has a career year, a season after playing like shit, playing 16 games for only the 2nd time in his career The later goes to the JETS at the end of a HOF career, a year after being considered for NFL MVP to finally suffer a serious injury and go down in flames...... You just know it could happen to us. :shit: either way he still had the worst 5 game stretch of his career with the NYJ. Whoever the new coach is should determine the gameday roster without interference from the suits! Favre or not. I'm sure that will be a demand from whoever signs on.
an unsettled QB situation is far worse for a team than having Brett Favre. aside from the Browns, who seem to have 2 good QB's, there aren't going to be many jobs open where a coach can walk in and feel good about his QB situation. I can't imagine many coaches preferring to coach a bad team with no QB over an underachieving team with Brett Favre. the Jets are the farthest thing from a headache. that's just ludicrous.
I think the coach may rather have Brett back just to avoid the annoyance of looking for another QB without a high 1st round pick
My God I can't believe that Favre coming back is even a consideration. I mean, even if the Jets were dumb enough to WANT him back I can't believe Favre would say to himself, "Yep. I've still got it!" His performance this year overall was barely mediocre. Another year like this would tarnish his legacy forever.
Hoyer makes me cringe but Favre has always been erratic but with better coaching he would be better, just based on the fact that he has had worse years than this one and we don't know about the shoulder. You see across the NFL landscape of coaches buried by failing in trying to get the franchise QB and paying the price. Having Favre to make a transition to a new QB isn't exactly a bad thing and I want to see what a good coach can do with the players on hand, people underrate just how stark players can be used with different coaches
I think you're misinterpreting the "Favre Factor". Having Favre here as the starting QB is much more of an incentive for a good head coach to accept the job than if the starter was Kellen Clemens or grooming some first rd pick. This is a win now team, Favre still gives them the best chance to win now.
