Six years ago, Brett Favre and Chad Pennington squared off at the Meadowlands in the final game of the season, with the Jets an outside bet to land the AFC East championship. They needed help from the Patriots if they were to win the division, but could also squeeze in as a wild card if the Browns lost their game.

On Sunday the same scenario will play out at Giants Stadium with much the same cast ? with a couple of minor changes.

Favre is now the QB of the Jets. Pennington leads the Dolphins. The Jets now need the Patriots to lose, rather than win and it?s a Baltimore team (that once used to be the Browns) that holds the wild card possibilities in its grasp. The common denominator ? the Dolphins have to lose.

I know there?s been a lot of doom and gloom on this board over the past week. Much of it was justified, but this could yet turn out to be one of the great days in Jets history ? just as it did six years ago when all the pieces fell into place.

It could also become one of the worst days if one of the pieces refuses to fit ? but that doesn?t bear thinking about.

I thought about this as soon as it set up. Big difference is the JETS started 2-5. Momentum was going the other way and Chicago was a speedbump.

    We'll see on Sunday.

    Great post man

One thing is for sure, when the Patriots without Brady play @ 1:00 against a Bills team who is playing for a reason...A Reason to knock the Patriots right outta the playoff picture, these Bills can pull of an upset, and I will be rooting for the Bills as if they were the Jets come Sunday. The Bills played a really solid game last week WITHOUT their best player in Lynch...I believe he's back this week and guess what? Trent Edwards is back.

I really have faith that the Bills can pull off an upset against this NE team without Tom Brady and Maroney who has always been a BEAST in cold wheather games...Anything can happen and you know what? Cassell and the Patriots CAN struggle this week and maybe even get dominated by this Bills team who has NOT called in quits here in 08.

As far as the Ravens/Jags game...Man...This Jags team can run the ball with the best of em, Jones-Drew is a freak. Garrard can makee things happen (Last year in the playoffs against NE), and you know what? The Jags defense has always been tough against the run and you know what that means? The Ravens will be forced to make plays in the passing game with a rookie QB who has NEVER faced this type of pressure.

Sign me up for a Bils over Pats or Jags over Ravens type of Sunday this week all day.

And you know what? Jets over the Dolphins....As always.

Yes indeed, momentum and perception are funny things. If the Jets had lost a couple more games in the first half of the season and beaten the 49ers and Seahawks the mood would be very different even though the situation could be exactly the same. "If" and "could", of course.

Technically you're correct... but I was quoting Yogi Berra.

If buffalo kicks a last minute field goal to beat New England I will be a believer.
