New Coaches: HC: Rex Ryan OC: Bill Callahan DC: Rob Ryan Brett Favre retires Cuts: David Barrett CB Mike Nugent K Resign: Eric Bartom ILB Hank Poteat CB Jay Feely K Leon Washington RB Trades: Trade Laveranues Coles to the seahawks for their 3rd round pick FA signings: Charlie Batch QB Bryant McFadden CB 2009 NFL Draft 1. Percy Harvin-WR: he is what this offense needs a game breaker at WR. Some people think we need a big physical WR. I not saying that we dont but i see Harvin being the Jets own Steve Smith. If we get Washington more involved then we are going to be a force to be reckoned with. 2. Rashad Johnson-S: our secondary struggled tremendously this year. Revis and Rhodes are our only solid starters in the secondary. our CB and S opposite of rhodes and revis were completely horrendous. By picking up mcFadden and drafting Johnson will make our secondary one of the top 10 in the league. 3. (from the seahawks) Darryl Jackson-DE: Our Dline started out strong and then faded as the season progressed thanks too the lack of blitzing our LBs. We have no Depth for DE besides Mosley who is too inconsistent. By drafting Jackson we bulk up our Dline and get a solid rotational player and possible starter. 4. Worrell Willams-ILB: our LB core was looking to be our strongest area on defense coming into the year. Which it was until we stopped blitzing our LB and started dropped our Lbs into coverage. Bowens did alright filling in for Harris but we have no one behind Bowens. Bowens is average and getting up their in age and we need some depth at ILB. Depth Chart: QB: Ratliff RB: TJ FB: Richardson TE: Keller WR: Harvin,Cotchery,Clowney,Stuckey,Smith LT: D'Brick LG: Fancea C: Mangold RG: Moore RT: Woody LE: Ellis/Jackson NT: Jenkins RE: Coleman/Jackson LOLB: Pace LILB: Harris RILB: Barton ROLB: Gholston CB: Revis,McFadden S: Rhodes,Johnson K: Feely P: Hodges Leave comments and tell me what you think
We send our 3rd round pick to the Packers for Favre and we get the Seahawks 3rd round pick for Coles and we pick Darryl Jackson with the seahawks 3rd rounder.
Harvin's not a #1 receiver... I think he should be used like the Titans' use Chris Johnson. Comparing him to Steve Smith is an insult. Smith might be short, but he's a very physical wideout for his size.
How is he not a #1 WR? im not saying he is as good as Smith right now but i think he has the potential to be.
noones giving up a 3 for coles..he's basically untouchable with his guarenteed contract.i don't think harvin is a 1st pick.i like spikes there.and signing gerald sensabaugh to take the other safety spot.than finding a receiver with a 4th.we seem to do good there
Okay well Coles hasnt done crap this Whole year. I think a team will be willing to give up a 3rd or a 4th. I dont want coles on this team. WR is one of our biggest needs and your saying we address one of our biggest needs on the second day? ILB isnt a major need. We have 1 great starter and 1 solid starter at ILB. Why would we pick a ILB with our first rounder when we dont even need a ILB. If We Dont Resign Barton then yes i agree we should pick Spikes in place of Harvin.
Johnson is a RB, and Harvin is a WR. And Harvin's way more physical than you're giving him credit for. He's not just some little dude: And I've heard more than once that he's bigger than the 195 he's listed at on Florida's website. I think Smith's a decent comparison to Harvin. I'm usually not big on Florida offensive players, but Harvin and Louis Murphy IMO are two FLA guys who might actually be underrated....well if Harvin didn't have an injury history he would be.
i think we have a field stretching playmaker on the roster already(clowney) and wr historicaly take 2-3 years to pan out so yes i don't want to spend another high pick on someone we'll be waiting to contribute.i'm not sure bartons coming back.though i wouldn't mind it.so spikes or a blue chip o.l. can never have enough of those
If we went WR in the first round...working with what we know now...I'd rather have Britt or DHB. Britt is gonna be big.
and I don't care what anyone says, Percy Harvin is not a receiver. He's a scat back. He has almost twice as many rushes than receptions in the Gators offense this season. Urban Meyer uses him perfectly. Meyer built the system for speedy players like Demps, Rainey, and Harvin. If you're saying he's more physical than I'm giving him credit for and that he's bigger than 195, than why can't he have Reggie Bush/Leon Washington/Chris Johnson role in an NFL offense? He's combination of speed and hands make him worthy of being drafted in the first round. The guy's just a gimmick player, not a #1 wideout. ...and Louis Murphy's not underrated, he's just not as good as any of the underclassmen.
They are all built the same - Washington is a little shorter, but they all have the same build. Johnson's a spell to a bigger back - and he's used a lot in the slot and as a receiver out of the backfield...just like Bush was/is used in New Orleans. Leon Washington isn't used enough in the Jets' offense. Chris Johnson compares to Reggie Bush more than any player in recent history. Johnson's a much more effective runner though.
You haven't....watched much Chris Johnson have you? Johnson might be built like Washington, but he's stronger, faster, and has better tackling breaking ability. Johnson has absolutely nothing in common with Bush. Bush is a dancer in the backfield whose problem is being aggressive at finding and hitting a hole. Johnson doesn't have anywhere near that problem. About the only things those guys have in common is that they're all the lightning to someones thunder in their respective teams running games, they can catch the ball, and they're fast as hell. Johnson as a RB is light years ahead of both Leon and Bush, and it's not a matter of opportunity. He's the fastest of the 3, he's probably the strongest of the 3, and he runs with more power of any of the 3. And on Harvin as a scat back...dudes never had 100 rushes in a season...I agree that he'll probably used like Bush is on the Saints, but I don't see him getting a ton of touches as a rusher in the pros. I think he's got too much potential at WR to want him at RB long term...that alone would help lengthen his career. Theres another major difference between him and those 3 you mentioned...all those guys were predominantly RBs in college...Harvin isn't and wasn't.
I...have seen Chris Johnson play and I know he's a much more powerful and effective runner than both Washington and Bush. I said that. "About the only things those guys have in common is that they're all the lightning to someones thunder in their respective teams running games, they can catch the ball, and they're fast as hell." That is exactly why I was comparing them. I'm not saying they are on the same level of talent, but they are all used in similar ways -- some are used more than others. Harvin isn't a running back or a receiver. He's just a speed player that plays in a system built perfectly for the player that he is. I'm not saying he can be a feature back in the NFL, the team that drafts him just needs to get the ball in his hands as many ways as possible. He's shown at Florida that his body can't take a lot of hits...he'd wear down as a 20 carry running back. He's a guy that should get at least 15 touches a game: receptions and hand offs. Harvin may be listed as a wideout for Florida, but he spends most of his time in the backfield. He's often sent in motion to the slot position, where he does a lot of damage. He doesn't really have a set position. No player on Florida has over 100 carries except for Tebow. Harvin splits carries with two other guys similar to him. Change of pace backs usually don't get that many carries. Chris Johnson was a hell of a receiving weapon at ECU. His speed caused a ton of mismatches, just like Percy Harvin's does. There are similarities there. It's not hard to see. I'm not comparing them as running backs. I'm comparing them by the roles that they play for their teams.
The key to the draft isn't just seeing guys for what they are now...it's for what they can do for the organization in the future. IMO Harvin's long term destination as a pro is at WR. I'm not saying he won't be used like you say he is...actually I'm pretty sure we agree on how he'll be used for the most part...but IMO he's got alot of talent as a WR and if it were up to me I'd look to develop him as one.
