According to ESPN, this is the likely Opening Day lineup:

    LF Johnny Damon
    SS Derek Jeter
    1B Mark Teixeira
    3B Alex Rodriguez
    DH Hideki Matsui
    RF Xavier Nady
    C Jorge Posada
    2B Robinson Cano
    CF Melky Cabrera
    Bench? -- Nick Swisher

They agree with me on the placement of Teixeira and ARod, but I disagree with the placement of Nady, who would be hitting probably 9th, with Posada and Cano moving up one, and Swisher in center batting 8th. I'd say unless Melky has a great spring, Gardner will be the guy on the bench and Melky will be playing in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

How insane is it when you're talking about squeezing in Swisher and Nady in your bottom two lineup spots?

I can't disagree with this lineup anymore!
    Damon - LF
    Jeter - SS

    With Molina in
    Damon
    Jeter

    Teix
    Matsui
    Cano
    Nady
    Swisher

I have to laugh at the people, both here and the writers, who have a problem with the Yankees spending money. What would they have them do line their pockets with it like most of these small market teams do? That would be nice, make a few hundred million in profit every year. If there is one thing George learned and passed on to his kids is that you have to spend money to make money. It's the one fact that is true in all businesses.

Other teams before FA: Who should we go for? Maybe CC? Maybe AJ Burnett? Yeah those guys are good, but lets focus on hitting and defense with Mark Texiera. Oh never mind, the Yankees got them all. :)

I don't think Matsui has enough left to protect Arod. I think it will be Arod batting 3rd. Unless of course they get Manny which I can see possibly happening. They may get him to sign a 1 year deal, it doesn't look like anybody else is falling all over themselves to get him.

I think Pettitte is going to come back. This team has become a pretty attractive place to play lately. New stadium, great team. Power, Pride, Pinstripes. 2009 here we come!

Fuck Pettitte. Id love to see the yanks pull the offer and let a kid get the fifth spot. Do we really need Pettitte as a fifth starter. Hes a tool and hes done anyway. Let him take his fake, God loving bullshit act somewhere else.

its not that there spending money. no cap,if you have it spend it. but the yankees just asked for $400 million in tax free bonds from the City of New York to finish this 8600000000 billion dollar stadium. So i have to pay more taxes for the yanks to have a new stadium and sign $453 million in 3 players and pay a REEEEEEEEEEEDICULIOUS AMOUNT of money just to see this new stadium and new players who i dont even like?

This signing just makes me think how sweet it would be if the yankees fail again.

I mean with the guys they brought in, it would be a complete and disgraceful failure if they did not at least win the AL pennant.

Well they didn't give big contracts to guys who were projected to perform well, like in the past. They gave big contracts to guys who actually have performed well. The gamble is obviously Burnett.

I suppose. But we will also have all these guys the next year, and year after and so on. This isnt an all or nothing, one shot at glory type of deal. As much as Yankee haters would like it to be.

Absolutely, Teixeria was a great signing and will be for years, however im not confident that Sabathia and Burnett are going to pay off.

But with you know if the Yankees win, people are gonna stay they bought a WS, Yet if the lose, their chokers (aka NY Jets, spend money and lose).
